Emily raised her bottle, "To Marksmanship!"
Small talk was never her strong suit. Hmm what to talk about. If he was a fan of City Lights she could probably talk his ear off but he doesn't look like the type to watch cheesy soap operas. Work it is then...
"So tell me Atlas, why a law practice in Greenvale? In a small town like this, you probably don't see a lot of big criminal cases come your way."
Emily paused, Well he could be getting a big one pretty soon if we catch the killer...
"I know until recently things have been pretty quiet around these parts with just the occasional bar fight to break up or petty theft. Have you been keeping busy?"

Atlas clanked glasses with Emily and drank up afterwards. The cold beer flowed down his throat and passed a wave of relaxation over him.
Emily was curious as to why he moved to Greenvale to practice law. "I hope she doesn't find out about the "incident" that happened back in the city, but lying isn't good either."
"Well, I used to practice law in the city. However, circumstances beyond my control forced me to move someplace more quiet. Nothing illegal, mind you, but..." he was struggling to find the right words.
"Besides" he said, trying to shift his words. "I've found Greenvale to be a lot more comfortable than the city. It's a lot more quiet at night, no person next door blasting loud music and doing things with women of pleasure at 3:00AM. True, I don't get as many clients, but the ones I do get make sure I pay the bills. I've made plenty of money in the city, that I'll be fine out here for awhile."

"Yeah I get what you're saying. I was probably once of those obnoxious neighbors for someone when I lived in Seattle!
Emily blushed, "Wait that didn't come out right...The loud music I mean" Emily laughed.
"I first I was pretty sad when me and my parents moved here 10 years ago but I have to say I'm glad now I've made my home here. It's nice knowing your neighbors and all. The quiet life definitely has it's charms."
Emily let out a sigh, "Though I'd be lying if I didn't say I missed the energy of the city sometimes. Things can get a little dull around here She gave Atlas a wry smiled, "Plus you are out of luck if you want to get some decent Chinese around here!"
Emily pulled a bowl of pretzels closer and began to munch on a few.
"So how long have you been here? Did you move out here by yourself?"

He laughed at her remark about being an obnoxious neighbor, but only with loud music. "I'm sure someone here is having pleasure mental images of that..."
He also learned that Emily also moved from the city, though she had been in Greenvale for much longer. "It's good to know I'm not the only one."
"I can't argue with the peace and quiet Greenvale brings, but the lack of Chinese is a bit of a drag. Some days, I consider quitting the law business to open up a Chinese restaurant here, but then I remember that I didn't spend five years getting a law degree just to throw it away five years later. Besides, there are authenticity issues."
he saw a bowl of pretzels was moved closer and grabbed a couple.
"Well, for the most part, it was only me in the city. I had a couple of girls, but none of my relationships lasted more than a year. I moved here about a year ago and have been doing fine since. Not as many cases, though I did help my brother out of a jam a few months back and got paid handsomely for that. However, for the most part, it was just me in the city, and just me in Greenvale."
"What about you. You've spend quite a bit of time in both the city and the country. What brought you here?"

"My parents... well really my mom. She was sick and the doctors thought a rural atmosphere would be beneficial to her health. You know, less stress and pollution."
"My mother really loved it here, all the trees the friendly people..."
Emily smiled caught up in a fond memory.
"She grew up in the Midwest and only moved to the city to be with my father. I think deep down she always preferred the quiet country life. My parents had come here for a vacation sometime before I was born and when they idea of re locating came up Greenvale was the top of their list."
"After she..." Emily's speech faltered a bit but she continued, "passed during my Senior Year in High School my father saw no need to stay. His job needed him in the city so once I got a job here at the Sheriff department my father moved back to Seattle."
"To tell you the truth I was always closer with my mother and even though I miss the city, leaving Greenvale would feel like I'm leaving her. I just can't do that..."
Emily motioned towards the bartender to get his attention, "I think I need another drink, what about you?"

((Ohhh, the irony of picking Greenvale to escape stress and pollution))
Atlas listened to Emily's story about the reason she moved to Greenvale. He had enjoyed seeing her warm smile when she fondly recalled her mother's past. Even past the sheriff's uniform, she was another people with feelings and dreams.
However, he also switched moods when Emily talked about her mother passing. "I can relate..." he thought.
"I'm sorry to hear that." he replied. "But at least take comfort that you are making your mother's spirit proud serving and protecting the people of Greenvale."
He thought what he just said was a bit cheesy and mentally chastised himself for saying it. "That's the kind of lame thing they'd say in a movie." he thought.
"I shall go with another beer as well. However, I'm still keeping an eye on you. I'm not letting you set foot near a firearm or vehicle of anytime if you so much as think there are two of me." he grinned.

Emily smiled, "You know that is a nice way of looking at it. I bet she's pretty proud of what I've become."
The bartender come over with two new bottle of beers and Emily took a swig. Another country song blared from the jukebox near the door. Emily made a face.
"Ugh...I really love this place and all but man I really wish they would play more than country...I can only take so much girlfriends leaving and taking the tractor with them! Are you a big country fan Atlas?"

He had thought his comment to be cheesy, but at least it managed to cheer Emily up.
The beers had come and Atlas had taken a sip of his. He watched Emily swig hers and listen to the jukebox. "Not a big fan of country, I guess."
"Well, it does fit the ambiance of a small town darts bar, but you'll never find it in my car's CD player. I was always more into hard rock, though admittedly, I've enjoy Hip-Hop as well."
"I remember one particular case where my client was a Hip-Hop star. He was accused of possessing marijuana. Not only did he constantly rap about it, but also was found with a bag of green leaves. After trading blows with the prosecution, I took a sample of the leaves and burnt them. They gave off a minty smell. Turns out, those were crushed mint tea leaves. He admitted to smoking them, but didn't say so to keep up his image. I have no idea why he smoked them, but he was found not guilty. I'm not quite sure what happened to him after that..."

"Smoking mint tea?" Emily laughed. "That's something you don't hear everyday! Can't say I've ever heard of any of the kids around here doing that. Under aged drinking is the biggest problem around here.
Not a lot to do around here so a favorite past time seems to be to go into the woods and to have drinking parties. Personally I don't see the appeal..."
What's fun about going into the dark forest thought Emily and suppressed a shiver.
"But luckily Greenvale doesn't have to worry about hard narcotics or drug trafficking like they do in the big city."
"Speaking of music, have you ever gone to the Galaxy of Terror to hear Carol MacLaine sing? She's the younger sister of, Thomas, the Sheriff's assistant and boy does she have some powerful windpipes!"

"That guy behind the counter there was actually a sheriff? Damn, for the longest time, I thought it just a costume."
"I've only been once, during my first few months. I initially thought it was an arcade, but I found a bar instead of Pac Man and DDR Machines. I decided to check it out. The singer had a great voice, but the atmosphere seemed kind of...lazy. I think I fell asleep a couple times. The first time, I was woken up by the bartender...Thomas, was it?"
He took a swig of beer and continued his story.
"I can definitely vouch for Carol's windpipes, because I fell asleep a second time, and a shrill voice woke me up. Even since, I came here to do my drinking."
"The Galaxy of Terror...seems like the last thing I'd name a jazz bar."

"Yes, Thomas work there bartending to help out his sister. She's under age you know...Though I still don't quite understand how she's able to own a bar or have a liquor liscense for that matter. I guess it isn't a big deal she's only one year shy..."
"Thomas is so proud of his little sister not only being an entrepreneur but a fabulous signer as well. I'm surprised she's not more famous though, someone needs to put her on Youtube! She has half the male population here captivated I'm sure she would do well nationally."
"It's funny you thought Galaxy of Terror it would have be an arcade. I thought the name was odd too it's more fitting as a title to a bad horror B movie... definitely not a jazz lounge. One of these days I'm going to have to asked Thomas where they got the strange name."
"So are you a big gamer? I hear some military First Person Shooter is popular right now."

((What year does Deadly Premonition take place during again?))
"She's only 20? It's been awhile since I was there, but she looked a lot older. Nonetheless, I'm sure she enjoys the freedom of doing her own thing in a small town jazz club. If she went national, she'd have to consult someone like me for her every move."
"A B-Movie, huh. I suppose so, maybe about an intergalactic federation of vampires, werewolves, witches, zombies and politicians. Kind of like Star Wars meets every horror film I saw as a kid."
"To be honest, I was never into gaming. I remember a couple as a kid...Pac-Man, Galaga and Space Invaders, but it was never really my thing. What about you, Emily."
Emily didn't seem to be the video gaming type to Atlas, but he always expected surprises.

Charlotte limped into the Swery65 and sighed. She’d been into this particular bar a few times, and something about it appealed to her. She enjoyed The Galaxy of Terror, too, of course. But sometimes she just wasn’t in the mood for piano music. Not often, but it happened.
She scanned the interior of the bar to see what was going on. There were people playing darts, people sitting and standing around chatting and drinking. And it looked like the lawyer from the graveyard was chatting up one of Greenvale’s sheriff’s. She smirked a little and scoped out the pool tables. As luck would have it, she spotted an empty one in the corner. Time to play pool and have a few drinks.
Making her way to the end of the bar, she ordered a Guinness and paid for the table and pool cue. Then she took her glass of stout and headed over to the now no-longer-empty pool table and started racking things up.

As Tamika stood outside the entrance to the SWERY65 all she could think was, "What the hell am I doing here?" After leaving the graveyard, Tamika drove around. A lot. Down way too many forest roads. Once she finally found the SWERY65, she was to relieved to care that the building she was going to go into was a bar. Until now.
"This is the type of building I swore I would never go in as a kid. Now here I am about to go in it just cause I'm tired and lost." Looking back at the night, she added, "And this night is giving me the creeps. I just can't shake this bad feeling I've got about it. It's like some part of my brain thinks the darkness is just going to come and attack." Turning back to the entrance, she chuckled nervously. "Alright girl, you have seen way to many made for TV horror flicks. Stop acting crazy before going into the hellhol--I mean bar."
Putting her paranoid thoughts aside, Tamika finally walked into the SWERY65. "Looks like the graveyard party moved here." She noticed Charlotte and Atticus here. Tamika also noticed Atticus's drinking companion. "Great. Just fucking great. I get lost, get desperate, go into one of the few buildings in town I swore I would never go in, and what do I find. A fucking cop."
Trying as quickly as she could to go somewhere inconspicuous, Tamika moved to an empty corner table with an empty beer bottle on it. "Quiet, out of the way, and has a beer bottle so no one thinks I'm a was for not drinking. Perfect." Then, trying to not be noticed, Tamika sat back and began to observe to rest of the patrons. Though she was pretty sure most of the people here had already noticed her.

(Yes I think it's 2006 and yay more people in the bar "Oh me a gamer?" Emily laughed. "Not really, I never really played...I only know about it from some of my younger cousins. Don't get me wrong though I find them interesting and I'm actually picking up that ZBOX er.... or is it YBOX360?" Emily paused and bit her lip. "Is that it? Doesn't sound right, Well I was told there's some great story driven games that centers around solving crimes! Then there's-" Atlas seemed distracted his eyes had shifted to the entrance of the bar. There I go again yammering on and on. Poor guy! It's the same look Thomas gives me when I try to tell him about the latest City Lights episode. She reeled back her enthusiasm just a bit smiled and continued. "Well, I thought maybe you were one since you mentioned you thought the Galaxy of Terror was an arcade and still went inside to check it out! Not a lot of my friends or co-workers have the slightest idea what a game console is. I was going to pepper you with lots of questions if you were in the know!" Looking around Emily spotted an empty pool table and grinned. "Speaking of games, are you up for another game of Darts? I swear I'm not seeing double...but to be on the safe side how about a game of pool? No real danger there unless I smack you with my pool cue!"
