TO: Agent Paul DiMera [p.dimera@fbi.bau.gov] FROM:Agent David Young Henning [dy.henning@fbi.bau.gov] SUBJECT: "Wess"
Hey Paul, it's Henning. I'm in Greenvale, supposed to be resting, but this doesn't seem like the greatest place for a vacation if you know what I mean. Anyway, this isn't directly related to the Anna Graham thing, but I just wanted to check up on something.
So I saw this guy in town, in a diner. Looked vaguely familiar and it's bugging the heck outta me. I didn't get that good a look at him but he seemed a bit pointy and intense, and his face looked like a cat or something got its claws into him once. Heard someone calling him "Mr. Wess" or "Wes", could be short for "Wesley". The owner of the hotel I'm staying at said he moved into town a few months ago, but she didn't seem very sure of herself. Guy drives a red Mustang, license plate BIRDFLU; should be easy enough to track down at least a name from that.
Take your time, this isn't an emergency or anything. Just following a hunch to put my mind at ease. I wouldn't be so paranoid if this "Wess" character didn't remind me of one of our previous homicides; unsolved, cold trail. Can't remember which one but I'm sure it'll come back to me. Just get me a name off the plates that matches an address in Greenvale, and I'm sure it'll jog something loose. Mainly I just want to make sure there's only one kind of trouble going down here at a time, although something tells me I'll be disappointed. What is with these small towns? First public building I walk into, and I'm surrounded by weirdos. Like I said, great place for a vacation. Did I mention it rains?
By the way, you haven't heard anything from Agent York yet, have you? I thought he was supposed to be in by now.
Thanks, Henning

!! That's the one! Thanks Paul; I owe you a canteen lunch when I get back. Although, there's more to that story, isn't there?... They transferred me off Uccello Watch to work on the RSPs a while back so you might have to refresh my memory, but I seem to recall that particular mystery corpse as being just one of a handful of others killed with a similar MO. Eyes plucked out of their sockets, major facial trauma, feathers in the vic's mouth. Took us a while to realize it wasn't random, but ritualized... Typical mobster execution, carried out in an atypically gruesome style. Stop me if I'm thinking of something else- Maybe we couldn't get the court proof, but I'm pretty sure Daddy Uccello had his claws all over those crime scene photos.
I don't want to bug you again, but do we have anything specifically on the son? Psyche profiles, hobbies, people he was close to, anything like that? Kid grew up with a maniacal crime overlord for a father figure, gets kidnapped, then goes off our radar only to pop up again right when a girl happens to get murdered; who knows what he's capable of? Sure, Anna Graham's case doesn't fit the Uccello profile, but maybe our Wesley got tired of living in his dad's shadow. We all gotta make our own way somehow, even if it's as a copycat serial killer.
Sorry, I'm just typing my thoughts here. Maybe I'm reading way too much into this for a guy who's supposed to be relaxing, but just humor me. It could be important.

Agent Henning,
Hey. Can't even try enjoy yourself, can you? Always so negative.
I looked it up for you. WA license plate "BIRDFLU" is registered to a Wesley Uccello. Ringing any bells in your head? Because it's ringing some in mine. Daddy Uccello pretty much runs the streets he comes from, but he's been evading us for years.
Apparently the son was involved in a kidnapping case back in 97; he was taken across state lines. Daddy wasn't too keen to cooperate with us when the kidnapper started making demands, and the whole thing got "resolved" overnight without the Bureau. Found one of the suspects in a ditch on the side of the road later. That the case you're thinking of?
No, haven't heard from Agent York. Last I heard he was on the way, but I can't seem to reach his phone.
-Paul

Sorry it took me a while to get back to you; those were some juicy files. Sounds like Uccello Watch has had their hands full since I left.
I don't want to speculate, but even if this kid isn't responsible for Anna's death, I'm sure he's guilty of something. The kidnapping took place in '97, so Uccello Jr. would have been what, 18 years old if our records are accurate? Hardly an impressionable age; makes me wonder if his getting snatched was entirely involuntary on the son's part.
...And apparently I'm not the only one who thinks so. Says here the BAU put forward the possibility that Uccello Jr. might have been trying to escape his father by joining a rival gang, something smaller, easier for him to control... Maybe it's just me, but I think he could've done a helluva lot better than Nicolae Lupan's gang. Buncha two-bit thugs. Miracle they ever got close enough to the kid to nab him; just another reason to think our Wesley might have gone intentionally, but that's still conjecture. What we do know is that Uccello Jr. showed up safe and sound on Daddy's doorstep after Lupan was offed; guess Daddy got impatient with us and decided to handle things his own way. Some people. I'd hate to see him in a Starbuck's coffee line.
Between you and me, Paul, I'm not so hot on the angle that the kid was looking to join forces with Lupan. From what you've told me about his antisocial tendencies, he doesn't sound like the leadership type... I don't think he takes initiative by confronting things head on. But I think there's something to be said for the escape route theory. Maybe he wasn't entirely unhappy to be taken away from his father for a while, and the fact that both he and his brother went AWOL at around the same time is pretty telling. Familial discord; it's brought empires greater than Uccello's to ruin. And we might be able to use that to our advantage.
I'm thinking Lupan might have had the right idea after all: If you want the father, get to the son. Talk to you later, Paul, I got some thinking to do.

You know I'm going to hold you to that one, David.
Yeah, you have it right. Crime scene was enough to make even me choke a bit. Nasty way to die, when getting your jugular torn out is a relief. You have to be either seriously confident or stupid to think you can get away with a murder like that. Course, it's probably the former, or else we'd have him already...
Well, from what I can see the kid's no social butterfly. Did well in school, but never did any extracurricular activities, took as many self-paced classes as possible all through college. Apparently, he does data analysis work with this team of biologists studying some woodland diseases without even meeting them face-to-face. Weird stuff.
Also, he's a falconer. Seems like the family hobby. As far as I can tell, he never had a whole lot of social interaction outside his family. Lost his mom in 91, but had an adopted brother he was really close to who went missing early last year. Sounds like a whole nother can of worms.
This is all in the files, anyway. A bit of light reading for your vacation. Let me know if something comes up.
Sounds like you've found a suspect. Man, if you solve this case before he even gets there, Agent York is going to be pissed.
