Original Character Application
Name: Wesley Uccello
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Place of Residence: A small private house that's a ways out from the center of town. Two bedrooms and one bath, with a large yard and a mews.
Type of Car: A red 90s era Mustang (image link) with license plate "BIRDFLU".
Occupation/Skills: Wes is a zoopathologist, or researcher who studies diseases in animals. He works primarily out of home with video conferencing.
He's also a licensed falconer. He owns three birds: two Harris hawks and a golden eagle that may or may not have been a murder weapon unloaded onto him by his father.
Appearance: [Reference Image]
Wes is white with dark brown hair and eyes, 5'8" tall. He has an oddly proportioned body, with average to broad shoulders, a waspish waist, wide hips (for a guy) and very stocky legs. He dresses in loose clothing, usually an unzipped bomber jacket over a collared shirt, with a loose tie and oversized, baggy slacks.
He has a severe face that is pointy but not narrow. His eyes are sharp with very small irises, and thick, harshly curved eyebrows that make him look constantly annoyed. He has a large hawkish nose with a narrow bridge and a wide tip, and fairly wide, rounded lips. His chin is large and fairly pointed, as are his ears.
His hair is naturally slightly shaggy and mostly short (roughly and inch and a half long), with longer bangs to hide his eyes when he's uncomfortable. The hair on the sides of his head above his ears is dyed light seafoam green. He has sideburns but otherwise keeps clean shaven.
There are two claw scars on his face, one across the bridge of his nose up into his right eyebrow, and the other roughly parallel on his right cheek through the corner of his mouth. He's had them operated on to be less noticeable, but they're still there.
Personality: Wes is pretty much a jerk, and a very antisocial one at that. He has an obvious preference for animals over humans and is not afraid to broadcast it. He is rude, rash, stubborn, defensive, and has trouble controlling his anger; bitingly witty at best and plain abusive at worst, and not afraid to make a low blow. Still, there's a difference between his everyday meanness and when he actually has it out for you or feels threatened; he'll happily get into a fist fight, but pull a knife and he'll pull a gun (figuratively... so far).
Frankly, Wes just doesn't like people. You'd have to move mountains to make him really trust you. He's afraid of crowds and becomes noticeably tamer with just a couple of bystanders. The thing that he's really most afraid of is being read and letting someone else get the upper hand; he constantly puts up a front and masks his emotions very well. He bears his teeth very often, but what looks like a threatening grin could be an amused one, he tends to give a toothy smirk for no reason at all, and he can hide nervousness with a calm frown. He also has a habit of licking the front of his teeth, which is kind of creepy and often unintentionally threatening.
Although his looks and behavior might suggest otherwise, Wes is a very smart guy. His fear and rage might have him act rashly, but he has the sense to see what he did wrong and beat himself up for it later. (He isn't very secure or self-confident, even if he tries to make you think he is.) Otherwise, he is a reclusive bookish type who knows a lot of things about a lot of things and is good at sorting out facts.
You know that person on message boards who makes posts that are literate and well thought out, but horribly rude and condescending? Wes is that person.
History: Wes Uccello is the son of a powerful and fairly insane crime boss. His father was often charming and personable but prone to terrible outbursts of rage not too unlike Wes', and with a penchant for falconry passed from father to son. Unlike Wes, however, was his father's desire to put his birds to a more practical use: executing his enemies.
Wes' childhood was dominated by his fear of his father's life, his attempts at hiding how much the number of kids in the classroom really bothered him, and the presence of his surprise adopted brother; a boy three years older than him who had been orphaned by Wes' father. The not-quite-entirely-legal adoption was done partly out of guilt and a sense of responsibility, and partly because the poor five-year-old was a witness that Wes' father didn't have the heart to permanently silence.
The adopted boy, like Wes, grew up to be pretty socially inept and ended up working under Wes' father. He was the person Wes was closest to, especially after the death of his mother when he was twelve.
Into his adult life, Wes grew to resent his father more and more, despite how much he tried to buy him back. Their relationship grew strained; the adoptive brother grew to regret his life choices.
A little over a year ago, Wes' brother up and left; he said goodbye and disappeared, hoping to start over. Wes, still on terrible terms with his father, decided there was nothing left for him in his hometown and uprooted, moving to a tiny far-off town in the middle of nowhere where he hoped he could get away from people and all the insanity in his life so far.
Additional Notes: In addition to his birds, he has two indoor cats. He legally carries a concealed gun for protection.
RP Sample: Wes wasn't that phased when he first heard about the murder.
That bothered him more than the murder.
He was trying so hard to start a new life here. A better life, a quieter life, away from the shady deals and the car accidents he knew weren't accidents. In this new life, the news that some young girl was disemboweled and hung on a tree should have shaken him up, but instead he was just slightly relieved that he didn't know the name. What was wrong with him?
The more he thought about it, of course, the more the situation itself bothered him. There was a homicidal maniac around and, as it occurred to him, his odds were a lot worse in a town with a tiny population. His brother wasn't around to watch his back anymore. He had better be careful. Can't trust anyone around here.
In response to a murder, he went from worrying about how desensitized he was straight to worrying about his safety; he never even considered the young victim.
That part was typical Wes.
It didn't bother him.
