While Todd's patting did little to comfort her, it was sort of nice that he at least needed her enough now so that her pain was actually a problem instead of something good. She raised an eyebrow as Todd then proceeded to compare her relationship with Atlas to some show called Citylights. After a bit of thought, she could remember watching bits and pieces of a few episodes before in hotels. Vaguely, she remembered there being some auburn haired model named Kylie who Tamika had seen with some dark haired guy who she believed was a musician of some sort. All the rest she could remember were some of the characters' names and faces. Though the amount she remembered didn't really matter much since Todd proceeded to explain to her the entire Kylie and Trent story arch.
"Heh. Kylie sounds a lot like me. Though telling Atlas would never work. He's...okay, he sounds a lot like Trent actually. But everything working out so well only happens in stories and on TV. And this is reality, where people dump their partners for minor things. Atlas would dump me faster than I can blink if he knew what I've done. Happy endings just don't happen in real life."
Tamika was pulled from her thoughts by Todd complaining about not knowing some trivial detail and finishing his attempt at cheering her up. To be honest, Tamika had no idea what to say. No one who had ever treated her even remotely like this would ever have tried to cheer her up if she started crying. It didn't matter if she was helping them or not. Crying was weakness and anyone who shows weakness gets punished for it. After scrambling a bit in her brain for words, she finally replied.
"Thanks Todd. I guess...maybe things aren't as bad as I thought. If Atlas...actually cares about me, he'll understand, and everything will be alright. And it's not like I actually killed anyone like Kylie was forced to." Tamika weakly chuckled, though her expression was still quite downcast. She had killed people. Granted, some had deserved to die, yet others were completely innocent. And she wasn't even sure how much Atlas cared about her. Tamika wanted to believe, more than anything, that Atlas truly did love her, but she'd only known him for a few days. He couldn't have fallen in love with her that fast. He only wanted one thing. He would move one to someone better once he figured out she was missing. Tears threatened to be shed once again, yet Tamika forced them back.
"I'm sad to admit that I haven't really seen much of Citylights. I was always too busy..with work to watch much TV. Maybe you can tell me a bit about it. It certainly sounds like it has a complex and interesting plot."
