Woo, okay! Here's my application for Thomas MacLaine. It's been a while since I've submitted anything to a community RP, so I hope this is acceptable. :]
Canon Character Application
Name: Thomas MacLaine
Occupation/Skills: Assistant at the Sheriff's Department. People often wonder why.
Thomas' amazing cooking skills are well recognized by practically everyone in town. He also has an interest in sewing, fashion... and a bit of dancing...
Personality: Thomas is a sensitive, quiet and perceptive man: he is always thinking and feeling, but hardly speaking. Though timid and a bit clumsy at times, he is a dependable person and a diligent, obedient worker. He's always ready to lend a helping hand to his family (that currently consists of only his younger sister Carol, whom he loves and admires), friends, and co-workers... as long as he doesn't have to do anything with dogs.
There is no denying his kind, gentle nature, but a big heart leaves room for all sorts of secret sordid feelings.
He is attracted to handsome men, such as Agent York, but he is very madly in love with the gruff and mighty George Woodman. He would do anything for the Sheriff, no matter how depraved or immoral. He realizes that this is a completely one-sided love and that his infatuation is seriously unhealthy, but he still remains devoted in hopes that his feelings will be returned.
Despite his talents and the good opinions people generally seem to have of him, he suffers from heavy feelings of inadequacy and has quite the inferiority complex. Thomas desires to be tenacious and beautiful like his sister and often harbors jealousy for most other women, especially Emily Wyatt, his love interest's love interest.
It kills him that who he is will never be enough to help him find happiness, but he still can close his eyes and pretend. When he's alone, in his gorgeous red dress, he can be a goddess for just a little while. For now, he doesn't mind settling with that.
History: Thomas was originally born in Greenvale, but moved away during his childhood (a few years after Carol was born). During his teen years, his parents divorced and his mother up and left, leaving young Thomas and Carol with their father. He was an adequate single parent at first, but eventually succumbed to depression, found solace in alcohol, and became abusive towards his children.
As soon as Thomas became an adult, he kept Carol by his side and left their father to find a new home. Depending only on each other, they moved around to various cities over the years before finally deciding to settle back down in their hometown. It was there where he eventually chose to find a job at the Sheriff's Department. It was an unlikely career choice and didn't suit his personality at all, but he felt that he could find strength and give the help to others that he and his sister didn't get when they were on their own.
Things changed for him when he met Sheriff George Woodman. At first, he admired his protectiveness of the town and its inhabitants, then he began to think of him as a father figure... but, somewhere along the line, he ended up falling in deeply love with him.
When he found out about the mysterious 1950s murder case, he in turn discovered George's dark secrets and his quest for power involving the strange red seeds. Instead of being repulsed, his love grew stronger and became blind, and he fiercely devoted himself to helping his "Lovely G" attain his goal at any cost.
RP Sample:
It was a quiet morning at the Greenvale Police Department. That usually wasn't anything out of the ordinary (and it'd probably bore anyone else to tears), but with the murder investigation going on, Thomas was grateful for the peace. He wondered if that made him a bad cop.
He was seated at his small desk, leafing through one of his women's fashion catalogs to pass the time until lunch, which was the time of day where he felt most useful. Of course, he was happy to assist his sister at the Galaxy of Terror, but helping his fellow officers by giving them the energy to work hard to protect their town gave him a nice sense of purpose. Not only that, but he liked seeing how pleased people were with his food. Admittedly, any sort of praise always embarrassed him, especially when Agent York raved on and on without restraint, but he still loved to receive it. Wanting to be appreciated in some way was only human, right? He thought about it as he turned the page.
"Oh, wow..." Thomas murmured quietly as he spotted a red-headed woman in a sleek, tight fitting dress. It was black and hugged every curve of her body, flattering her figure but not leaving much to the imagination. What was it like to be someone like her, he wondered? He bet it was nice to be recognized for being so beautiful... and, well, sexy. She looked like the kind of woman that could have anything she wanted...
The sudden sound of wolf whistle from behind startled him from his thoughts and he spun around in his chair with wide eyes. His surprise turned into a mild annoyance when he saw one of the other officers behind him, staring down at his catalog with a cheeky grin.
"I don't think that's really 'safe for work', you know..." the man playfully scolded him, "Is she your type?"
Thomas wasn't sure what to say, so he made a slightly uncomfortable noise and turned away. "I... suppose." he managed to get out as he hastily stacked his catalogs and magazines. "Is there something I can help you with?"
His flustered shuffling was met with a chuckle. "It's okay, I'm not gonna rat you out." he reassured the nervous man, "I just wanted to tell you that 'Agent Scarface' is looking for you. I think he wants lunch." he said.
"Agent York? Right, o-okay... I'll prepare something right now." the assistant nodded while he meekly pushed up his glasses. As he stood up to go to the kitchen, he was stopped by the officer that scared the hell out of him.
"Hey, uh, you mind if I borrow one of those?" he pointed to the stack on the desk, "I could use some 'light reading'."
"Oh, um..." Thomas looked hesitant, maybe even a little disgusted, but he picked up a magazine and held it out to the other. "Yes, here. You can... you can just keep it. I don't mind." he insisted, then hurried away before he was humiliated further.
