OKAY. We're coming up on Day 5, guys. Day 5 means our first RK turn. SO. I wanted to start a thread to field any and all questions about the RK mechanic, reveal a couple of new things, and generally remove all doubt.
First, here's a reminder what the rules already say about it:
And now for some questions I've already gotten:
How long will each RK turn last?
It will rain for TWO DAYS IN A ROW. During those two days, the selected character IS the RK.
What happens to my character, exactly?
Well, the set version - you receive the package, and your character loses it. Your character may either go kill an NPC, kill a player character (this must be cleared with the other player AND the mod), or attempt on another player's life. Then the rest of the turn is spent as you wish - do you run? Hide? You won't quite be...yourself, though. Have fun with it - play up the negatives.
During the turn, your character's REAL SELF will be stuck in the Red Room (section soon to appear). This thread will run the full two days, and your character will be grappling with what is happening.
Once the turn is over, it is up to you how your character reacts. Do they remember? Do they black it out? Your choice.
Do I have to use an axe?
No. You are given one, but you do not have to use it, if your character would do things another way. You don't have to crucify your victim, either, if you don't want to - though you can, if you want to keep the similarity.
Can it be anyone?
While certain characters are exempt for plot reasons, for the most part, all ACTIVE characters are eligible. See below for the activity check.
Any more questions? ASK IN THIS THREAD. I want to clear all doubt before the day ends.
First, here's a reminder what the rules already say about it:
The Raincoat Killer
Now, this is where things are...a bit different. Anyone who has played the game already knows who the RK is, right? Throw that out the window. That isn't necessarily the case.
Here's how it works - every other time it rains (the span of time will be a bit random), a character will receive, in secret, a package. In this package will be a red raincoat, an axe, and some red seeds. THEY WILL BE THE RAINCOAT KILLER UNTIL THE NEXT KILLER IS PICKED.
The player has multiple options here. You may NPC a victim (make up a character just to be a victim), you may find another player to play an NPC victim if you would rather not play the killing out alone, or - if someone really wants to - the current Killer CAN kill a current player character (Please confer with the player in question and a mod before doing so, please).
Whatever you choose, you have to kill someone. Raincoat KILLER, see? Or you can ATTEMPT to kill someone - you can try and go after a character and have a struggle...but if they walk away alive, it will only be easier for the other characters to work out what you've done (ICly), and you CAN be thrown into jail until the next RK change.
If you are thrown in jail, Mister Stewart will come and bail you out once you are no longer the RK...but word travels in a small town. Most people will know what you've done, and otherwise mild-mannered or kind characters will have to live with what they've done.
The Killer will be picked by random numbers behind the scenes by an admin, so...look out. You never know who it will be next....
