Time: Very Late at night Day 3, almost Day 4 Weather: Cloudy, cold Warnings: people acting like idiots Characters: Emily Wyatt, Francis York Morgan, Kevin Ashcroft, Michael Tillotson and Todd Thorne [CLOSED]
Emily buckled her seat belt and turned on her car. Before she backed out she took a moment to glance in her rear view mirror to make sure all passengers did the same. A bucked York sat beside her up front in the passenger seat. Behind him sat a sulking Kevin. He had wanted to seat next to Michael but Emily refused. She didn't like the look in his eye, she knew he was quite good at getting anyone into his bed drunk or not and she didn't want the guy Ash seemed to dig to be another notch in his bed post! In the middle sat a drowsy Todd and behind her was Michael who had to continually nudge a drowsy Todd off his shoulder. All were buckled.
"Okay let's get this show on the road, Michael since you live closest to the bar I'll drop you off first!"
They pulled out of the SWERY65 parking lot and Emily gave a friendly honk and wave to Ashlin who was making her way slowly down the street on foot. Emily had been hesitant to let her walk home, especially with a killer on the loose, but Ash had assured her it wasn't that far.
It was rather quiet so to fill the silence she turned her radio on at a low volume. Her favorite pop/dance station, Movin' 94.9, was playing a dance remix of Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone." Emily smiled she liked this song, actually she liked the entire Break Away album and to think she was only the winner of American Idol just a few years ago!
She couldn't wait to crawl into bed after the day she's had with the morgue and then George's yelling. Hopefully playing taxi wouldn't take too long.

It had been quite an eventful night, considering it was Greenvale. Kevin didn’t remember having this much fun here before, maybe this place did change with so many newcomers. Thought Kevin was disappointed he couldn’t sit near Michael, he had no other choice but to obey the lovely deputy’s orders and sat quietly near Todd…For few seconds.
“Hey, Todd.” He slightly punched Todd‘s shoulder, looking over at Michael with a smirk. “Todd, can you give Michael a hug for me? He looks like he really needs one, and Emily, are you sure I can’t keep Michael tonight? I’ll take good care of him, I promise. “Kevin said it with such an innocent face he’d be surprised himself, if he could see it. Of course he knew she wouldn’t let him, but it was worth a try.

Michael had been...nervous at best about the idea of getting into a car with all these people. At the very least, he was glad that he wasn't sitting beside Kevin...he wasn't so keen on how...handsy the other man was. Not that sitting beside Todd was that much better - the drunkard kept lolling against his shoulder, making him wince and carefully push him away. As he sat there in silence, he could feel that burning inside him deepen...he knew he was annoyed with the situation, but even through the haze the alcohol had left, he could still feel his temper rising.
He caught the glance Kevin threw his way...and a sharpness entered his gray eyes, the slightest glare returned to the other man before Michael moved his gaze out the window instead.

"It's been a long time since I was in a vehicle with so many people! People who weren't being arrested, that is," York said enthusiastically, unaware of the discomfort taking place in the back seat. "I think the highest number was an entire bus full of high school students who had, according to the driver they'd kidnapped, been possessed by demons before going on a cross-county vehicular killing spree. The press called it 'Field Trip... to HELL'! Fortunately it turns out that school buses don't make for very effective murder weapons... They're not as easy to hide as, say, an ice pick. But I don't want to get started on ice picks."
He turned around and addressed the purple-haired young man directly.
"I'm sorry, Kevin, I don't think we were properly acquainted in the bar, and that Ashlin woman ran off before I could ask her the same question I'm about to ask you... Which is, what exactly is it you do for a living? You don't look like you're from around here... Why, with you and your purple hair, and me with my badge, we could form the Greenvale Outsiders Club!"
He looked grave for a moment. "Unfortunately the Club sounds more fun than it actually is. But you're welcome to join, if you meet the membership requirements."

A confused Todd looked in Kevin's direction. "Dude you want me to give you hug? Okay weirdo..."
Todd flung his arms around Kevin but not for long because as he did so an image of an embarrassed Space Cadet flashed through his mind. Todd sat up ramrod straight at the memory. Due to his intoxication Todd said rather loudly, "OH YEAH! Miiiiiikey where's your girlfriend? Did she leave us because you felt her up earlier?"
he leaned over in Michael's direction and placed a hand on his shoulder. With a wide grin he continued said, "Tough breaaAk man! IF youuuuuu neeed help wif da laDIES..." Todd paused and paused and jerked a thumb at himself, "I'M YOUR GUY!"

Kevin was watching Todd and Michael with an amused look, while listening to York and got slightly uncomfortable when the other man mentioned his badge. He wasn’t afraid of Greenvale police for many reasons, but his guy was definitely from higher levels. He was still kind of hot thought…
“Well, I do many things…Web design, programming, mechanics. Anything that has to do with technologies. I’m quite good at it.” He shrugged, looking over at York in the front seat playfully. “Actually, there are a lot of other things I’m good at. Like sex, which I haven’t had for five damn days. Do you think you can handle that challenge? You won’t be disappointed.” He smirked, giving York a wink. “We could do it in our club of Greenvale Outsiders, if you like.”

Emily locked eyes with Kevin in the rear view mirror and rolled her eyes and shook her head.
Nice try.
Emily bit her lip when York started his "Field Trip... to HELL" and prayed it wouldn't lead to anything that would make her revisit her meal from earlier. Luckily it was pretty tame and she'll smiled when she saw York start a conversation with Kevin but frowned when York referred to himself as an outsider.
"Hey! Now York, you may be new here but I would hardly call you an outsider. In fact-"
Todd's sudden movement from the backseat caught Emily's attention in the rear view mirror. Worried she focused her attention on the blond and asked, "Todd are you okay do you need to throw up?! I can pull over! I CAN PULL OVER!"
Please, please, please not in my car... She was starting to pull her car to the side of the road when Todd's next statement caused her to jerk the wheel causing the car to swerve suddenly.
MICHAEL COPPED A FEEL ON ASH? Was that why she was so red. Oh. my. GOODNESS!
She was about to ask Michael how long he fancied Ash when she overheard the end of Kevin's proposition to York.
"WHAT?!"
In her shock Emily slammed on the brakes which sent everyone lurching forward. It was a good thing everyone was buckled in! She put her car in park in the middle of the road and whirled on Kevin with her eyes wide and face flushed.
This was so embarrassing she couldn't believe her friend propositioned York, a visiting Federal Agent, of all people
"KEVIN!!"

York, still twisted around facing Kevin, barely seemed to register Emily's suddenly erratic driving. He raised an eyebrow and said, "That's an interesting proposition. You're very forward, Kevin. If not for that initial look you gave me when I mentioned my badge, I'd have said you probably say that to all the FBI agents you meet. But I'm glad you consider me an exception..."
For a moment after this statement, he appeared deep in thought for longer than the average person in his situation probably would have deemed necessary. Most would have misconstrued the pause as consideration, when in reality, "consultation" was probably closer to the mark.
"What do you think, Zach? Would we be disappointed? I must say, I don't think I've ever had an offer like this from a man before."
<You did, once. And you didn't take my advice then, either.>
"Mm. Oh, yeah, I remember; the one with the Vincent Price movie collection. Well, don't worry, this time I've learned my lesson..."
York lowered his hand from his temple and turned back to Kevin with a light shrug, hampered only by the awkward positioning of the seat belt across his chest.
"Sorry, I'm not sure my partner would approve. It has nothing to do with you, of course... But it'd be too difficult to keep my mind on the investigation, if I were to get involved with someone right now. It'll probably be a lot longer than five days until this case is over, but if you can wait that long, you're welcome to ask again... I will warn you though, I'm usually on the move again pretty quickly. Speaking of which, how are you with cars?"
Stillness prevailed for one interminable second as York seemed to notice Emily's face right next to his, as she too stared at Kevin.
"...Emily, don't you think it's dangerous to stop in the middle of the road, of all places?"

“I can fix anything you put in front of me, and I also don’t charge my clients when they look as good as you do. And my proposition still stands, if you and your partner change your minds, I’m always free.” He smiled at York, a bit confused, who was that “partner” guy anyway? “Whatever, as long as he agrees later…He can't possibly be as cracked up at that guy who kept bringing a toy rabbit to bed...”
He was even more confused with Emily’s reaction. What was that all about? It wasn’t the first time she saw him flirting with someone. “Em? Are you alright?” He looked over at her a bit concerned. “Why did we stop here?”

Emily glanced between York and Kevin and seemed to have come back to her senses. With another blush she brushed her hair behind her ear and muttered a "I'm fine-sorry guys..." and then laughed a bit. "I-I Just had a rough day, Todd's little outburst surprised me and I-I'm sorry." Just what else was her problem? Hell if she knew. She turned forward in her seat and continued their trek up the road. At least with the lateness of the hour there was hardly anyone on the road so her reckless emergency stop didn't cause too much trouble.
What was wrong with her? Usually she didn't mind it when Kevin blatantly hit on people, heck she even found it funny sometimes! However his flirtation with Agent York really irked her. Sure she was embarrassed York was a Federal Agent after all but something else bugged her and she couldn't a finger on it.
With an apologetic glance in the rear view towards Kevin she said, "Kevin is great with cars York! I'm sure he could get yours running in no time! He's even fixed mine when a drunk driver rammed me a couple years back. It was pretty messed up but looking at it now you couldn't tell this baby was ever in a collision."

Michael was really trying to mind his own business - so when Todd suddenly addressed him, he didn't turn his head to look...until the word 'girlfriend' was used. Then his gaze shot around to him, face reddening by a fraction. 'Felt her up?' What was he talking about? All he had done was try to put his hand on her leg to comfort her when there was talk of doctors (which, really, even in his still-drunken state, he looked back on and thought rather...odd). Why would that make her leave? A bit of a troubled look crossed his face...until Todd was clapping his hand to his shoulder.
Wincing, he pried the hand away, holding it daintily as if Todd was filthy somehow. He spoke in low tones, hoping no one else in the car would respond to the comment (they all seemed rather preoccupied with something Kevin had said - he had rather zoned out, if one was honest, and didn't quite catch what was being talked about).
"Ashlin and I are only friends...if I needed your help, I would have...asked questions." He glared at the man beside him, very much so regretting this car ride already. He was starting to feel...irritable.

Todd lurched forward when the car made a sudden stop. Was a deer crossing the road or something? Geeze. For being sober Em drived like shit!
Then as if she heard what he was thinking she slammed the car into park and whipped a round in her seat. He was about to hold his hands up in mock surrender and apologize but it seemed Emily's ire was directed at something Kevin did. What did Kevin do? Why are people yelling anyway? Agh! he was so confused. His head head was fuzzy too.
He turned back to Mikey, "OooooOoooh friends? Sorry to hear you are in the friend zone man. Tough break! Now believe me I FEEL YOUR PAIN!" Todd gave a significant look in Emily's direction who had brought the car back into the road. Then Todd threw his hands up in the air for emphasis. He would have patted him again but the guy looked a bit twitchy...
"Actually your situation reminds me a lot of Jake and Sam's from season two of City Lights! Personally, I don't see what the big deal about Jake is but all the female fans seem love him. I think it's actually all about DETECTIVE LOGAN CASEY SMITH. LOGAN IS THE MAN! What do you think of Logan? I bet you would be his fan too! SPEAKING of fans, man there are some creepy ones! But they seem to be fans of Derrick. I dunno what the appeal is that guy is creeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepy!"
Todd's verbal diarrhea seemed to pause for a moment and he lowered his voice, "But seriously man I want to help you get with your chick!! If there's ANYTHING and I mean anything I can do you let me knoooow okay!"
He then gave Michael a big smile. "You are really cool dude! I don't see why you would have any problems anyway."

"Really? That would be amazing! Thank you for the generous offer, Kevin," York exclaimed. "Zach, finally we're in the clear! No more having to get lifts from police officers and friendly, well-meaning townsfolk whose cars smell like diapers. Once this arm heals up, we'll be back on the road in no time..."
He listened quietly for a moment to Todd's ramblings in the backseat. Then he said reflectively, "It's difficult to judge these things. You may be surprised to hear that I'm not very good with women... Which is where someone like Kevin would come in handy! I didn't even have to try with him, and I get my car fixed in the bargain. But I'd like to think if there's such a thing as a soul mate, they'd be worth fighting for. If they just land in your lap without any fuss, how would you ever know?"
<Maybe you should run your own advice column on the topic of romance, York,> the voice in his head said sardonically. <You're like Vince Vaughn's character in Swingers tonight.>
"I'd say that award would go to Todd... I feel like I don't quite have the lingo down yet. For example, what in the world is a 'friend zone'? Doesn't sound so bad to me."
<Would we be in the friend zone?>
"Well, we are friends. But I have the feeling it means something more complicated. Relationships are like that... Which is why, at this point in time, it's probably best to stay clear of them."
<That sounds more like the sort of advice Michael should be getting,> the voice replied after a slight hesitation. <From what I can tell, he shouldn't be dating any time soon. For the girl's sake...>

Aaaaand Todd was starting to rant. Michael largely tuned it out, glancing nervously around the car to see if anyone else was paying any attention to them. He...certainly hoped they weren't. This was embarrassing, even while drunk. While he seemed to carry on about some soap opera (that was...really more Mister Stewart's forte than his, if he was honest, so most of what was being said went soaring over his head), he glanced up at York again...wondering a bit. An FBI Agent, hm? Mister Stewart probably wasn't going to like that...but then, he also probably already knew he was in town. Michael himself didn't much care for the sort of...funny way the man kept looking at him.
But then, he probably just thought he was weird. That was common enough. The alcohol must have been tinting his perception - yes, that must be it.
His attention went back to Todd as the other man lowered his voice...his usual poker face giving way to a baffled lift of the eyebrow. Despite the strangeness of the situation, his cheeks reddened, a rather telling blush appearing all at once when Todd suggested he could help him get with Ashlin. The young man looked...nervous, shy...confused. Maybe...maybe he...did...?
"You...really...think I am...'cool?'" His voice was just above a whisper - maybe a little louder than he meant it to be, however, in light of his hazy drunken state. He paused for a moment, hesitating, and then....
"...In...these matters, I...admit, I am a fool."
He looked down, very red, suddenly finding a spot on the back of Emily's car seat very intriguing.

Kevin just gave York a smile, nodding and then turning to Michael and lightly patted his shoulder, leaning closer towards him. “There-there, dear, uncle Todd and I can help you out with your girl problem, you won’t find anyone as experienced as us in Greenvale, trust me on that one.
“First of all, do not be yourself, or try to relax, you’re restrained as a teenage nun.” He looked at Michael in a skeptic way and lightly shook his head with a sigh.
“Secondly, your lady seems like one of those innocent-romantic types, buy her flowers, candy and plush toys and she’s all yours.“ He smirked. “Oh, and you sure look like you can take care of yourself, since you drag a sword with you, girls love guys like that.”
