Time: Late Evening Weather: Cloudy Warnings: Shadows, Drunken Escort Mission Characters: Tamika Weir, Atticus "Atlas" Lasseter
Atlas didn't quite remember how many beers he had inside, though the next morning, his answer would most like be "too many." Tamika attempted to carry him towards her car. Though he wasn't the largest man in Greenvale, he had some size over her.
Though getting to the car would be the least of their worries. A purple fog spread across the ground. The sky seemed to turn red, as the clouds circled around. Figures were flailing out of the ground, letting off tortured moans into the air.
"Oooohhhhh, shit the fuck!" Atlas slurred "Dose limbo... assholes again."

Despite the difficulty of carrying a guy who was about 10" taller than her, things didn't start out looking too bad. Then the fog came and the shadows started appearing.
"Fuck!" she muttered. They weren't too close right now, but that would soon change. She couldn't fight while having Atlas leaning on her and she doubted she would be able to have Atlas hold his breath long enough to get to her car. So she did the only thing she thought had a chance of working.
Tamika then got Atlas off her and told him, "Stay here." Then she pulled out her switchblade and slashed the face of a shadow that had gotten a bit too close to her.

When Tamika went to attack the Shadows, Atlas adopted a fighting stance, or more accurately, as much of one as his drunken body would allow. He could hear the shadows moaning.
"KIIIIILLL..."
"GEEETT HIIIIMM..."
Atlas wasn't frightened. He simply eyed them back.
"Yeah! Well, you're ugly. And I fucked your mother, too! What are you going to do about that, huh?" he yelled, pointing at them.
Several of the Shadows were drawing closer to Atlas. However, this only made him throw out even more threats. "Cmon, bitches! You walk even worse that I do. You limbo like fairies and your shotguns are pea shooters." he signalled the shadows towards him.
One of the Shadows lunged at Atlas. He responded with a drunken fist to it's face. Although it knocked him back, Atlas tripped and fell to the ground in the process. "Ha Ha Ha, I fucked you up! Ha ha ha ha." He kept laughing.

Tamika finished off a couple shadows while listening to Atlas yell drunken threats and insults. "Atlas you moron! Stop antagonizing the fucking shadows! You're not helping!" She then turned around and attacked the shadows that Atlas had drawn toward him. Tamika managed to defeat them, but got hit several times. One of them hit her across the face with a steel pipe, giving her a rather nasty bruise on the left side of her face. The force of the blow was enough to make her stagger back a few steps, which caused her to almost trip over a still laughing Atlas. Taking one look at him, she finally snapped.
Tamika ran back forward, stabbing the shadow that hit her in the face. Then, she spun around, grabbed the front of Atlas's shirt and screamed in his face, "WILL YOU JUST SHUT UP?!?!?" She then threw him back on the ground and looked at him with disdain. As a few more shadows materialized near her, she ran to fight them off, taking out every last bit of rage she felt on them.

Turns out Atlas's taunts only riled up the Shadows. Many more were materializing. Atlas didn't care though. To him, they were all fools. However, his behavior only served to anger Tamika, who yelled at him. He bobbed his head a bit and said back "Dude, take a chill pills. These things suck..."
He attempted to lift himself off the ground. A shadow dressed in a police outfit with a shotgun materialized behind Tamika as she fought off the shadows Atlas provoked. He took the car keys out of his pocket and stumbled towards the police shadow, who was preparing its shotgun, preparing to blast Tamika. Just as it was about to shoot, he slashed at it with his car keys, causing it to shoot off it's gun, but miss Tamika completely.
"Yeah! Eat car key, ya jack of all asses." he yelled at the shadow. He tried to swipe again, but fell to the ground again. "Go ahead, shoot me with your pea shooter. Give me a matching set of shoulder wounds!"

Tamika angrily fought off the shadows, which now were materializing faster, thanks to Atlas. "That fucking son of a bitch! I can't believe how fucking drunk one guy can be! I take back everything positive I ever-" Then a shotgun blast went off right behind her, causing Tamika to spin around in surprise. What she saw purely amazed her. A shadow with a shotgun had just tried to shoot her in the back. Yet, the shadow had misfired because Atlas attacked it with his car keys. "He...just saved my life?" Tamika was stunned, yet didn't have much time to think about. At that moment, Atlas fell again and the shotgun shadow was preparing to shoot him.
Tamika ran back to the two of them as fast as she could. She used her momentum to slam into the shotgun, knocking it so that the shadow shot another shadow in the shoulder instead of Atlas. Then she slashed the shadow's throat with her switchblade. As the shadow dissolved into the ground, Tamika turned back toward Atlas, her face a mixture of rage and complete confusion. After a few moments, she shook her head in disbelief and pulled Atlas off the ground. "Come on. Let's get to my car." Then she half led, half carried Atlas to her Celica, put him in the passenger seat, and drove off.

Just as the shadow was going to make good of Atlas's request, Tamika had slammed into it. "Yeah, take that!" he yelled at him. She wasn't wasting time though. She lifted up the lawyer and moved him towards her car. Placing him in the passenger seat, he sat back.
"Man...seeing those shadow things might have been the best thing that ever happened to me." he said. "Ever since I came to Greenvale, I haven't been able to do anything. I spend days and days sitting at the office waiting for a client. Sure, I'd get one every so often, but most of the time, I'm twiddling my thumbs." he began to cry.
"Why was I forced to come here?"

"I can't say I agree with you on that, Atlas." Tamika put the car in gear and drove silently out of the parking lot, when she noticed that Atlas sounded a lot sadder than she expected. She glanced over at her drunk passenger and noticed that, for some reason, he was crying. This completely confused Tamika and made her forget the anger that she felt earlier. "What do you mean 'forced to come here'? Were you trying to get away from something?" she asked, sounding concerned.

Atlas turned to Tamika. "...That case..." he began to drunkenly sob. "...That fuckin' case...national news saying I defended a murderer...final's victim's blood......on my hands." he said, holding out his hands. He seemed to look at them for a second before burying his head in them, crying some more. He didn't care that he might have been embarrassing himself in front of Tamika, the memories tormented him, even more so that he was unable to control his emotions.

"Hey it's alright," Tamika said kindly. She then reached over with one hand and placed it gently on his shoulder. "You didn't kill anyone. And no one knows for sure that you defended the murderer, right?"
Murder. It seemed ironic to Tamika that that was the reason Atlas was in Greenvale, considering that several murders were the reason that she was here. She could remember every last one of them. The rival crime bosses and ex-mob members she killed in Chicago. The business man that everyone thought she killed in Philadelphia. Her mother...
Putting her hand back on the wheel, she glanced at him and asked, "Would you believe that murder's the reason I'm here too?"

Atlas felt her hand on his shoulder, which comforted him a bit. "Well, the media don't care. All they care about is money." he said.
However, she was also here because of a murder. Though shocking information, he'd have to wait until he was sober to even process it. He instead relied on emotion.
"You're...not a murderer either. You're too nice. Maybe you can be...angry at times...but..you're a good person. Probably one of the only friends I've ever had..." he sobbed.

Tamika suddenly looked sad as he told her she wasn't a murderer. "If only you knew..." She supposed it was a good thing that he thought she wasn't a murderer, yet it still made her feel like she was lying to one of the few people who actually liked her. After a few moments, she finally smiled a bit and said, "Thanks Atlas. You're...a good friend. Even if you got a bit drunk." "A bit drunk, completely wasted...same dif, right?"

"Thanks Tamika, but..I didn't get a little drunk...I got...fucked up..." Atlas replied. "I was fallin' on my ass, hitting walls and tripping on furniture. It was funny, but....people tell me I act stupid when I do that. We talk when I'm sober." he said and lied back in his seat, apparently asleep.
There wasn't as much opposition on the road, except for the occasional shadow that would manifest itself in the middle. It would remain quiet for the remainder of the trip.
