York blinked as if he were a computer calculating some unwieldy sum in its head. Then he looked up at Slone, who had his pencil, trembling slightly, poised on his waiter's notepad with the air of the scientist who knows by instinct that he is about to receive the world's longest print-out.
"I'm going to have to apologize if I make any errors; usually I like to do a quick rehearsal before making the order. But I'm pretty sure I've got it down. Ahem..."
York cleared his throat, then recited rapidly:
"To start, let me have the pomegranate and kumquat marmalade crostini with a fiddlehead salad drizzled with raspberry Balsamica reduction and topped with toasted almonds. Then I'll have the veal cheeks with Périgord truffle sauce and red cipollotti, crayfish in white mousseline with morel mushroom infusion, Tartar of Kobe beef ragout, Tonga beans in lobster curry, Imperial Beluga caviar and can I also get the pigeon en croute wrapped in burrata cheese, lightly sprinkled with rose salt and broiled under a steady blue flame? I think that's it..."
Slone was perspiring slightly, but he was a professional and took pride in his job, small town bar notwithstanding. He looked York right in the eye and said calmly, ignoring the smoke coming from his pencil, "Is that everything, sir?"
York tapped his collar and frowned. "I suppose it's a little early for dessert, but I have a feeling that the lobster curry is going to do a number on me unless I get something to wash it down with. How about... A 1973 Chateau Mouton-Rothschild Jeroboam?"
Slone looked faint. "Wash it down with...? Er, yes, great choice. I guess you know that 1973 is the year Mouton attained top classification for its Bordeaux, then? Being one myself, you seem to be quite the oneophile..."
York laughed. "Unless that means I choose wines based on my birthdate, I'm pretty sure I'm not deserving of such a grand title. Plus, I just thought it sounded fancy. Oh, before I forget, can I get the Beluga caviar on the side? Like maybe in one of those little ketchup tubs? I'm sure you've noticed how it tends to spread itself everywhere if left unchecked, and contrary to popular opinion, not everything tastes good with fish ovaries."
"Of course, sir..."
As the waiter left, tottering slightly, York leaned over to Emily and whispered, "Em, this place is great! Did you hear what that guy called me? I don't even know what it means. Amazing!"

“It just seems a bit boring, huh?” Kevin, for some reason, was sure that was what Tamika intended to say. “Well, yeah, there’s not much to do here, but still, it’s my hometown. And, it may sound like some emotional crap, but I feel really safe and peaceful here…I guess, I miss that feeling the most. To be honest, my life isn’t the most stable one.” He smiled a bit sadly, looking at her. “It always feels like returning home, even when “home” is a hotel. “

Ashlin blinked as agent York rattled off his rather impressive order. "I didn't get to order." Ash said with a bit of a pout a moment after the waiter walked away. That wasn't very good service Ashlin thought. Really should one wait till everyone had ordered to leave?
A few minutes later though a different and slightly nervous looking waiter appeared. "Ah hello there, I'm Dean. I'll be your," he faltered for a moment "other waiter tonight." Taking a quick, nervous glance at York (as if he was looking at some kind of large predator) he finished after clearing his throat. "Was there anything else you needed?"
"I'd like the Salmon Wellington a la mode please." Ash chimmed in, happy she would be able to order after all. She was rather hungry tonight, and if she was was going to be staying up late she'd need energy. "Did you want anything Gabriel?" Ash questioned, realizing their new friend hadn't gotten to order either.
Once Dean had left she thought aloud, "This place really is fancy. I've never heard of a anywhere giving you two waiters before."

Henning pulled the Crown Vic (which, though he was sure they had both deliberately avoided commenting on it, still stank unpleasantly of smoke) up to the neon-lit building and turned to Charlotte with a pre-apologetic air.
"I'm sorry, I'm really not used to not planning in advance... But after reading through all those tourist pamphlets, I'm pretty sure this is the most suitable place for relaxing and... looking as good as you do right now."
He could feel himself grinning foolishly as he glanced at her. "I just couldn't imagine taking you to the local sports bar. It'd be like putting the Mona Lisa on the refrigerator with all the kids' finger paintings, or something. I don't know, I told you I was bad at analogies. The only thing I'm worried about is not having made any reservations... It looks pretty busy in there. And don't ask me what the name is supposed to mean."

Charlotte was aware of the unpleasant smell of smoke still lingering in the Crown Vic, but it had slowly slipped into the background, losing its importance. What was important was the man sitting beside her. The butterflies in her stomach were fluttering about in gentle excitement. She couldn’t tell him what she’d realised back at the library. Not yet. But... maybe soon.
“The where isn’t as important as the who, anyway,” she told him, leaning over to press her lips to his. She grinned back. “I like your analogies.” She undid her seat belt. “Let’s see what the Galaxy of Terror holds for us, shall we?”

"I've never really understood why people like going back to their hometowns. Of course, that may be because mine wasn't really that great. But that's all just part of the past now right? Nothing to worry about anymore."
"Yep. Totally. Nothing to even think about." Her mind thought sarcastically. She then glanced around the bar, looking for a distraction. For once, York made himself useful and provided one.
"Man, what did York order?" Tamika said while gesturing at the table the irksome agent was seated at. "That waiter looks he was just told serve York some type of deadly fish or something." She then snerked and added, "If that's the case, I may go help him."

Henning held the door open for Charlotte, warm light streaming out of the building in a way that made him relieved it wasn't coming from a blazing fire. Then he caught sight of a man wearing a bright pink suit that was visible even from across the room, and his relief dissipated with alarming speed.
"Don't look now, but Agent Gaga is in the house," he whispered as Charlotte joined him on the threshold. "From the descriptions he gave me of his wardrobe, I'm actually surprised at his restraint."

Charlotte couldn’t help but beam up at David. It was going to be a good night. She could feel it. Then again... she suspected that just about anything would be an improvement over earlier at the Clock Tower. But spending the night out with David... was definitely the best improvement.
And then he whispered about Agent Gaga in her ear. She scanned the interior, her eyes alighting on a man wearing a brilliant pink suit. What made it better was that he appeared to match some of his companions. She blinked, before bursting into laughter (pressing her other hand to her ribs without even being aware she was doing so). Charlotte wrapped an arm around David’s waist, trying to quell the giggles.
“Is... that York?” It was a silly question, but she couldn’t help herself. Somehow, his having a pink suit didn’t surprise her. Though she found herself a little... vexed, to see a familiar face in the Galaxy of Terror. Make that familiar FACES, she amended, taking a look at the others around the FBI agent. Apparently half the town had decided that they had to go out to THIS bar THIS night. She couldn’t help but smile, glancing up at the man beside her. They didn’t matter.

The door opened to the Galaxy of Terror and in sauntered Brad. Almost. Releasing the door with his arm, he failed to account for the quick springs pulling it back shut with him only halfway in. A sudden yelp and a muttering about damning some deity of doorways followed as he was pinned between the door and the wall. Doors just don't like me... Finally entering, he did a quick scan of the people. It was rather crowded, apparently quite the happening spot as the brochure he'd read prior to arriving at Greenvale had pointed out.
Walking towards an empty seat at the bar, he started to make out more familiar faces. Ashlin and Emily, also the red head from this morning...wow she looks stunning...but she's with a gentleman I don't know. Has a swagger much like Agent Morgan's though. And speak of that devil, what's he trying to be? A salmon? And then he saw her, or at least her instantly recognizable red hair. She looked to be seated with Kevin, Emily's friend from last night. Altering his course he made a beeline for their table.
"Hi Tamika. Hi...Kevin, was it? How is your evening going?" he asked as he walked up next to the table.

If Henning had been trying to escape with Charlotte to an empty table without being noticed, he was doing to be disappointed. York actually got to his feet when he saw the couple approach, as if in deference to royalty. In reality, he would never bother standing for monarchs; people he knew personally, and rather liked, were far more worthy of special attention.
"David! Why didn't you tell me you were coming here?" he exclaimed. "I would have really narrowed my wardrobe suggestions to you if I'd known you'd be surrounded by so much red drapery. ...And hello to you too, Charlotte! You look stunning, even more so than the last time we met."
York then gave them both an appraising look, leaning back and tapping his collar as if he himself had tailored both their outfits and was seeing them being worn for the first time. He mused, "It's funny, but if you watch a lot of nature documentaries on TV like I do, one thing is immediately apparent: In the animal kingdom, especially when it comes to birds, the female is always drab, dull, and less colorful when compared to her mate. It's part of their courtship dynamic. And yet, you two have gone and switched it around completely! Would you call that unnatural, or just evolution?"
Then he shrugged, and pointed at the ceiling. "Either way, I'm sure Katharine Hepburn would have something to say to the both of you. 'Nature, Mr. Henning, is what we were put on this Earth to rise above'... Well, I'd certainly take Charlotte over a queen any day. Even an African Queen."

Charlotte grinned at the other FBI agent when he joined them. She rather liked him. He was odd, and she liked odd. It sounded like David didn’t, though, which meant that things were bound to get interesting. Can’t be worse than his interactions with Wes, she decided. And she could handle these two.
She blushed at his compliment, even as she was laughing at his comment about narrowing his wardrobe suggestions for David. She sort wanted to see just how many different suits he had. She was curious. Hell, might make for an amusing photo. She’d have to think up a title for it.
“Hello, York,” she said. Eyeing his suit with an amused smile, she added, “I love your suit. You’re very pretty in pink.” Apparently York is a movie aficionado. Somehow that didn’t surprise her either. I wonder if Zach is, too. Whoever or whatever he is. Speaking of which, she didn’t want to be rude. “Oh, I’m sorry. Hello, Zach.” She wasn’t sure what possessed her to say hello to someone York talked to that no one else could see; someone that, for all she could see, didn’t actually exist. But it felt rude not to. Then again, after what she’d seen so far in Greenvale, York talking to Zach was mild. And harmless. Very harmless. I don't think Zach will try to kill me.
“I’ve always been more of a history buff myself. Though I have been known to watch the occasional nature documentary,” she replied. “I’d say evolution.”
Grinning, Charlotte impulsively slid her arm from around David, and dipped into a proper curtsey. For some reason she was in a very playful mood, and she was going to have fun with it. “Why, thank you, kind sir.” Rising up, she noticed something. His eyes are heterochromatic. She hadn’t noticed back at the hotel. Then again, she had been too busy choosing her words carefully to pay much attention to his eyes.

Emily smiled she was glad York was having a nice time, though she felt really bad for that poor waiter...Slone wasn't used to such "epic orders" and secretly Emily wondered if she got into the wrong department of law enforcement. What York ordered would have cost her at least a half month's pay. She glanced at the menu, scratch that, try two months pay! Who knew FBI was where all the big bucks were!
Emily's eye's widened when she saw the new arrivals to the Galaxy of Terror. That dress! Charlotte was gorgeous! Again Emily could have sworn one of her friends have stepped straight out of an episode City Lights. In fact Charlotte's outfit reminded her of the fashion week arc last year involving 40's couture.
Emily squealed inwardly and was so thankful she brought her digital camera with her to capture this adorable night. It wasn't very often she saw so many in such high fashion! In fact, she was just about to ask to take Charlotte and David's picture when York's compliments to the red head left her frozen. Her smiled dropped and she self consciously pulled at her sweater while her eyes darted between the two.
It's been so long since she's tried to dress to impress and Emily had thought she had done a nice job tonight but with York's reaction to Charlotte's appearance was a clear indication she had somehow failed. Emily thought her mother's dress was enough but to the agent she could have been wearing her deputy uniform for all he cared! Not glamorous enough to be seen as a queen... but maybe if she tried to put on some makeup? Maybe then...
She frowned, and downed her glass of Merlot and signaled a waiter to get another glass. Unfortunately with her empty stomach she could already feel the effects of the alcohol on her system. She felt warm so she unbuttoned her black camisole no longer caring if she looked 'indecent' or not. In reality, Emily didn't but she's lived in Greenvale long enough to think she was.

In any other situation, without Charlotte pressing warmly against him and laughing so freely, Henning's ire would have been more easily raised at York's comments- not that he felt insulted, exactly, but he didn't trust things he couldn't understand, and most of the non-work-related things that came out of the other agent's mouth were largely incomprehensible to him. As it was, though, he could care less; York could drop as many movie references as he wanted, but it was Henning's arm circling her shoulders, her reddish-gold hair burning a hole in his peripheral vision... That is, until she let go of him to curtsy to York. It was fine. She was just playing. He smiled tolerantly, and turned his attention to the other three people seated at York's table so as not to be rude.
The women were both blond, and pretty in pink themselves. One of them Henning recognized; the Deputy from the hospital. The other two, a slim young woman and a brown-haired man with glasses, he hadn't met before.
He noticed almost immediately that Emily looked none too happy about York's casual flirtation- if that's what it was- with Charlotte, and wondered what could be behind that. Well, the answer was obvious, but it wasn’t any of his business.... Still, for some reason, he felt inclined to help her out somehow. As York and Charlotte conversed, he nodded towards the others.
"And you all look wonderful as well. Emily Wyatt, am I right? And, I'm sorry, I don't think we've met..."
He glanced at the strangers with an apologetic expression. "I'm David Young Henning. Agent York and I work together occasionally at the Bureau, but I'm just here on vacation. He's, ah, not too handy with introducing people other than himself, I'm afraid."

Ash watched the interactions curiously. The woman was very pretty, and Agent York seemed to know the pair. Glancing over to see if Emily knew them as well she was surprised by how upset Emily seemed to be. Why . . . ? Ashlin had never been one to pick up on flirting, it just wasn't something she understood, but she could apply things she'd had explained to her in other situations. Remembering how upset she'd felt when Kevin had been paying so much attention to Michael, and what she'd discovered earlier about her own feelings she was able to put two and two together. 'Emily likes Agent York'. There wasn't an question to it in her thoughts, it was a simple logical conclusion after all. Emily hadn't looked upset before Agent York had started paying attention to the woman or complimenting her, and from what Ashlin had seen Emily liked talking about pretty dresses, and couples and those sorts of things.
Ashlin was broken out of her musings when the man, David, introduced himself. "Oh, hello, I'm Ashlin." she said with a little wave. She was still rather preoccupied wondering if Emily was going to be okay. Ashlin might have had a high tolerance to alcohol herself, but she'd spent enough time in pubs to see people trying to drink away their sorrows. It never ended very well and Ashlin certainly didn't want Emily trying anything like that. She resolved to help her friend as much as she could in the matter. She might not understand much about romance or dating but hadn't Emily promised to help her with Michael? It was only right that she help Emily in return.
It seemed she really would have to start watching those shows with Bo-Bo. It might help her figure out how relationships were suppose to work.

York lit up when Charlotte complimented his suit. "You know, Zach and I both love John Hughes, but we have very different opinions of that movie. I'm fine with the ending, but Zach always thought Molly Ringwald should have ended up with Duckie. That scene where Duckie is sitting in the rain after Ringwald goes after the rich kid, Zach says it really gets to him. He's always had a soft spot for the neglected best friend in these kinds of stories... After getting over the jealousy, I like to think Duckie finally figured out what he really wanted. There's always hope, if you're persistent."
He glanced over at Henning, who was chatting it up with Ashlin, Emily and Gabriel at the table. Smiling faintly, he added, "David's nothing if not persistent, but he never struck me as the romantic type... Opposites attract, I suppose."
