Time: Day 5, Evening Weather: Rainy Warnings: None Characters: Atlas, Emily
Atlas slowly picked through his fries as he stared at his reflection within the glass of beer he had. He had wanted to come here with Tamika, but she had not picked up the phone, despite saying she would earlier. Perhaps she was busy, he had thought when she didn't pick up. However, that didn't stop him from worrying. He dipped the chicken tender into his honey mustard and slowly nibbled on it.
However, what he had seen just an hour ago had truly disturbed him. He had found some evidence that Tamika had went missing. He couldn't stop worrying about what had happened to her. Was she still alive? Is she dead? The worst about about it was the feeling of helplessness he had in knowing that she was gone and there was nothing he could do about. All he could do was try to eat his dinner and get back home before his pale friends came out to play...

Emily pushed open the door of SWERY 65 and gently shook her raincoat to rid some of the clinging rain. It was still pouring out there and she was thankful SWERY's was one of the few places in Greenvale that didn't follow the town tradition and closed up shop when it rained.
Lord knows after the day she had she needed a good stuff drink.
She glanced around the bar and was happy to see Atlas' familiar figure seated at the bar. She may be here to drown her sorrows but it would definitely be nice to talk to a friend about this fucked up day.
She pulled the stool out beside Atlas and sat down, "Hey Atlas! How are you doing...you looked just as bad as I feel. You having a bad day too?" Catching the bartender's eye she added, "Can I get me a shot of your top shelf tequila?"

Atlas noticed a female figure sit beside him. He tried to ignore it until he heard her familiar voice. "Emily." He sat up, a bit surprised. He wasn't expecting any company, but was kind of grateful that she showed up. Maybe, as a cop, she could help him.
"Well, you could say that." He replied, taking a swig of his beer. "It started out alright. I was going to meet up with Tamika right about now, but I couldn't reach her. I thought she was busy, but...I saw her car unlocked and her....belongings missing." He didn't want to mention the fact that she had a gun. "I think something bad happened to her, but I don't know what..." Tears were starting to fall down Atlas's as he tried to recall the story. He tried to hold them back in from of the blonde, but was failing. "Sorry, I just....I'm really worried about her..."

Atlas' sudden tears shocked Emily, the poor guy seemed really distressed about the young woman's whereabouts. She had no idea he and Tamika were even that close!
"Aww don't worry Atlas!" Emily pulled him in a hug and nodded to the bartender who returned with her drink order. She pulled back and put an arm around the lawyer's shoulders and with her shot in hand she gently lead him towards a corner table. "Come on pick up your beer let's grab and table so we can have a bit more privacy and you can tell me more about what you saw. Maybe I can help?"
Emily knew she officially had to wait 48 hours to do anything "official" but Tamika and Atlas were her friends and there was nothing stopping her from doing what she could, protocol be damned.

Atlas was surprised by Emily's hug, but returned it anyway. He was grateful that she was here. It didn't completely get rid of his worries, but it helped him feel a little less hopeless. "Ok. Thanks Emily, I'm glad you're here." he replied to her, taking his food and beer and was glad that she had wanted to help.
He joined her at a table near the corner. "Well, I had come across Tamika car near the electrical substation. I thought it was odd, so I look around in the nearby area for her. However, I didn't find her. That's when I noticed her car unlocked, but...there was also some blood nearby. I tried calling out to her for about a half an hour, but nothing." The tears were forming up in his eyes again. "She's alright. She has to be..." he added, sounding a bit desperate.

Emily patiently listened to Atlas' hurried account of the last few hours. Her tequila lay untouched as a cold dread started to spread from the pit of her stomach.
Blood.
Has Anna's killer struck again? No! She wouldn't get ahead of herself. Just because Tamika is gone leaving behind all her things with...blood doesn't mean that psycho has her. But somehow like Atlas she knew something was very wrong.
Oh please God pleeeeaaase don't let us find Tamika strung up on a tree.
"Okay Atlas, honey please don't worry." Yet. She reached out and gripped Atlas' hand. "We will find her, you have my word. I haven't known Tamika very long but I do know one thing she's a spitfire the one. If anyone has taken her by force she's probably making their life hell at the moment. She's a gal who can definitely take care of herself so I would hold off thinking all is lost."
She leaned back and smiled encouragingly, "We will find her!"
Emily leaned over to the floor to dig her notepad from her purse to jot down some notes and let out a small squeak of discomfort. It was a miracle she was still able to function like a normal human being with the lack of sleep and the impromptu sparrings with Todd this week.
Just the thought of Todd made a sour look fall across her face. It was his fault she felt like this.
She hurt all over. She placed a hand to her rib and slowly rose back above the table. Shes attempted mask her sudden and extreme discomfort with a another smile. Maybe she ought to take a trip to the hospital tomorrow and get a look over.
"Can you tell me in more detail where you saw her car and the blood evidence? I'm worried with this downpour that the blood would be long gone by now if out in the open.

Atlas gripped Emily's hand back and tried to breathe to calm himself down. She had a point though: Tamika was no helpless damsel in distress. She could most certainly take care of herself and would probably fare far better than he ever would if he was kidnapped instead of her. Still, he couldn't help but worry about her.
He moved his hands away after a bit and wiped some of the tears away from his eye. He was glad Emily was here to help. However, a new frightening possibility emerged: what if she was kidnapped by someone with connections to the more supernatural elements of this town. He was more than willing to fight through anything in order to see Tamika again, but would Emily even be able to help. Would she even believe him?
It was then he noticed that Emily wasn't doing all that great either. She had let off a squeak of discomfort and held her chest where it hurt. "You're not very good at hiding your pain, you know." he thought as he was about to try and elaborate where he saw her car.
"You know where the old Electric Substation is, across the Powell Bridge. It was around there. I think there was a construction site nearby as well." He replied to her question. "By the way, are you okay? You seem like you're hurting a bit." He added with a concerned tone.

Emily began writing in her notepad, "Yes I know where that is...it's on my way to work. I'll call George and let him know the situation. We are on high alert right now due to Anna's killer still being on the loose. Tamika's disappearance seems suspicious enough to me that I doubt he'll enforce the whole 48 hour rule or mind me taking a quick look around the site."
At Atlas' inquiry about her health, Emily blushed and nervously put a hand through her hair. "Er-yeah I'm fine...really! I've just had a bit of um, rough physical activity over the last few days." She laughed and rubbed her side a bit and shrugged, "Hazards of the job I suppose!"
Again she eyed her drink and reached out and picked it up. She hesitated a moment and then quickly took the shot and slammed the glass on the table. She wasn't planning on getting wasted tonight but she needed something to take the edge off of today. She stared at her bandaged hands a little more somber and was lost in her own thoughts for a moment.
She was still in disbelief over what happened this morning. Todd really scared of her. She didn't think she could stand to be in the same room a lone with him ever again. He was acting like a whole other person. She smirked, if this was City Lights she was sure she would find out later his long lost evil twin had taken his place and the real Todd was trapped somewhere else.
If only real life played out like a television show...
Evil long lost twins aside if she didn't know better she would have assumed Todd was on something at the very least but him being such a health nut she really doubted it. But still has behavior was still very confusing. Sure Todd's usually annoying but he never gave off the vibe of being a vicious or malicious man. His jibs were "all in good fun" even if it was usually at her expense but he was never this cold. And those accusations...
She felt the pin pricks of tears in her eyes. Well it just goes to show you never really know anyone, really. To think goofball Todd had this side to him all along. She shuddered it creeped her out especially since she didn't pick up on it after working closely with him all these years.
She was really glad George came in when he did...and even though she had experience another yell fest. Things could have been so much worse, a pay cut would have been the least of her problems.
Pay cut...
At this thought Emily sneered. That stupid Todd! Her hands balled into fists she was so angry at this turn of events. She turned and signaled one of the waiters and ordered a beer and some nachos.
She turned back to Atlas and hesitantly said hoping he would think less of her, "I've had quite a day myself. Me and a fellow officer were reprimanded this morning. I would rather not get into the details but we ended up getting our pays cut." She rubbed her eyes but then groaned dramatically and then buried her face in her arms on the table.
Voice now slightly muffled she whined, "I don't know what I'm going to doooOOoo. It wasn't like I was paid the big bucks in the first place." She looked up and pouted, "I'm going to have to look for a second part time job to make ends meet if I can't change George's mind soon. That or call Papa for help and I really DON'T want to do that."

Atlas watched as Emily jotted down notes on her notepad. He thought it was a bit ridiculous that they had to wait 48 hours in order to do anything. "By then, the killer could either be long gone, or even plotting to do it again.". He was grateful that she was willing to bend the rules. "She's a very brave woman is she's willing to cross that sheriff in order to help." he thought, smiling.
However, she was a terrible liar. Despite the fact that she was fine and had some rough physical activity, her visual cues said otherwise. From the uncertainty of her speech to her constantly changing facial expressions and even tears starting to form in her eyes, he knew that there was something more going on in that head of hers.
She had somehow knew and revealed why she was acting upset. Atlas looked at the girl with empathy. Neither of them was having a good day, however, she was still trying her best to help him. He moved next to her and wrapped her in a gentle hug, trying not to aggravate her injuries any more. Despite his heart belonging to Tamika, he cared about Emily's well being and didn't want his good friend to be in pain.
"I'm so sorry to hear this, Emily." he said to her while stroking her back. He had pulled back a bit to speak to her.
"Listen, I'll see what I can do to help you, whether it be to help you find a part time job or get your pay back. It's the least I could do since you offered to help me find Tamika." he smiled at her.

Emily lifted her head and look wide eyed for a second at Atlas. She then gave a big, true smile. "You would do that for me? Th-thank you Atlaaas! I know we haven't known each other that long but I really appreciate it."
The waiter returned with her beer. Emily nodded her thanks and pulled away from Atlas and shooed him back to his seat across the table and took a big gulp.
She sighed, "Truthfully this whole murder investigation has been pretty awful for me. I haven't been sleeping and everywhere I turn people are at each others' throats. GOD! George has been in such a foul mood ever since Agent York arrived it's been a pissing contest between them ever day--" Emily suddenly put a hand to her mouth in a failed effort to stuff those words back in her mouth. Wide eyed she worriedly glanced around the bar.
Slowly she took her hand away and in a low whisper said, "Umm... I probably shouldn't have said that! Ooooh if George heard that he would fire me on the spot!"
Emily took another sip of her beer and started to pick at the label on her bottle, "Lately I've been thinking maybe I'm in the wrong line of work especially..." She sighed, "...especially since there are some around here who don't think I've earned my position in a fair manner." She frowned and stared at the floor. "The problem is I don't know what else I can do!"
Emily leaned forward and in a low voice continued, "I never really fit in here around here. Everyone is so..odd and traditional. That's not always a bad thing, but you know when I first joined the force I was given weird looks all the time. Especially by the men in this town and many gave me attitude at first when I first started patroling. Like how dare I try and do a 'man's' job. It was like Greenvale was in some sort of time warp! It was the 90's yet people acted like we were back in...Oh I don't know the 50's or 60's!"
"George was very supportive of me though." Emily smiled and laughed, "Which I think surprised a lot of people around here! I think with him on my side it kept most of those naysayers at bay. He saw something in me when others didn't. It was a great confidence boost so even with all the initial disapproval from others I thought I..." She paused ad frowned. "I thought I had found something I was good at! But now, I'm just not so sure anymore."
She leaned back and threw her hands in the air "George is always pissed with me now! I can't do anything right lately. He probably realized what a mistake he made all those years ago and is looking for any excuse to get rid of me now..."
Emily returned to nervously picking her label. By now half was torn off and littered the table top. She glanced up at the flickering televisions and her eyes lost their focus. Then softly to herself she said, "Hmmm, maybe I should have followed Papa to New York all those years ago..."
Her eyes refocused and snapped back to Atlas, "Oh God! Here I go rambling on and on. I'm sorry Atlas! I'm not being very good company am I?" Emily gave a self depreciating smile, "I didn't mean to turn our talk into an Emily pity party ugh..."
Then without warning Emily's mood switched. She leaned over the table with a mischievous smile and an odd sparkle in her eyes asked,"Sooooo tell me when did you and Tamika start going out?"

"No problem, Em!" Atlas smiled back.
He moved back to his seat once the waiter came with her beer. He decided to take a swig of his own beer as she began with another story.
"Tell me about it. All sorts of weird things have been happening and I haven't been getting any sleep either." He replied. How he managed to sleep at all was a mystery, considering the rather aggressive supernatural elements that plagued the town. Luckily for him, every one of them seemed to have the decency not to break into his home. “You? In the wrong line of work? Hardly. You’re one of the most caring and compassionate persons I know. Plus you’re always willing to help people out. If anything I think there should be more cops like you.” Atlas responded and listened to Emily vent her frustrations. “Though I can see where you are coming from about these people being rather traditional, especially with the rain superstition. I’m guessing not a lot of people around here pay much mind to events outside of town I guess…”
Atlas watched as Emily nervously picked apart a label. It was clear she was unsure about her future. If he were able to, he would have hired Emily to work part-time at Atlas and Co. in an instant. Unfortunately, with the few clients he had, he couldn’t afford to pay anyone else. “No, no, it’s alright. I’m your friend, you can tell me your problems anytime..” He smiled back at her. “I’m sure George wouldn’t try to get rid of you. Like you said, he’s high strung like everyone else around. There’s no way he’d try to get rid of his best deputy.”
When Emily switched the conversation over to him and Tamika, a blush creeped up on his face. “W-well, we were friends for a couple days, but we became official last night.” He replied. ”Well, I guess there’s no harm in telling her how.” “I wasn’t having a very good day yesterday and she came by to see how I was doing. One thing led to another, and we pretty much fell asleep in each other’s arms on the couch.” He added. He then turned his gaze on the blonde in front of him.
“What about you, Em? Do you have a special someone” Or even just a guy or perhaps a girl you have a crush on?”

"Best Deputy? Hardly...but I appreciate the encouragement Atlas." Emily gave a small sad smile. Atlas didn't know the whole story, the supposed whispers around the office about her nor had he seen how mad George has been with her just over the last few days alone: the fighting with Todd with her so called "mockery of his authority" in front of York and their resulting shout fest in his office? Yeah best deputy her ass.
George probably had her dismissal papers all filled out and sitting in a desk drawer waiting for his signature. Just one more screw up and she would be gone just like that!
But the sadness and inner turmoil she felt over her floundering career only lasted a moment because what Atlas said next had set her heart a flutter. Hands clasped she squealed, "Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww you fell asleep in each other's arms? That is so A-DOR-ABLE! I wish I could had gotten a picture of that sweet scene-" Her gush stopped mid sentence and a sudden look of concern crossed over her face.
Hesitantly she asked,"...But wait this happened last night? I thought...I thought Tamika was on a date with Kevin last night?"
She sat back and frowned the sparkles in her eyes dimmed quite a bit. With a sorrowful shake of her head she said, "Poor guy. I guess the date didn't end well?" She pouted, "And they looked so cute in their matching outfits too."
I should give Kevin a call and see how he's faring.
Atlas' query brought her out of her thoughts and startled her. For some reason she had immediately thought of Agent York.
She blushed and took a sip of beer. Why the hell did she think of York. Sure he was handsome and charming in a bizarre way. But she doesn't like him like that. No way! Besides an elite FBI agent like him who traveled the country and took on the big big cases would never look twice at girl from some backwater town like her. Especially one who inspired dread in others by merely showing up with a batch of homemade cookies!
"No I'm sorry to say I have no sort of guy like that," She grinned. "But I do love watching the love of others blossom." She grinned again when she thought of her friend Ashlin and her growing crush on Michael, she really hoped she could get those two together!

Atlas laughed a bit at Emily excitement over Tamika and him falling asleep together last night. It gave her a human quality to her: the uniformed dedicated deputy squealing like a schoolgirl over romance. Unfortunately, it didn't last long once the realization came that it was on the same night Tamika and Kevin dated.
"Ohh yeah, that. I hope the poor guy isn't too mad at me. But you have to admit, everything that happened last night between us just felt so...right." He admitted awkwardly. "Think of a way to change the subject....Think of a way to change the subject..."
"Though just between you and me, from what I heard about their outfits, if I saw the two, I would have thought they were a lesbian couple." Atlas had said. "N-not that there's anything wrong with that of course, though somehow, I don't think Greenvale seems like the kind of town that would be...tolerant of that kind of thing." he quickly added.
Atlas was surprised to hear that Emily didn't have a special someone yet. "Hmm, that's a little surprising. No offense of course, but it seems that someone like you would have little trouble finding a boyfriend. Still, I'm sure you'll find the right person someday." he replied. "Then, we could perhaps all go out on a double date." "Assuming I can find and rescue Tamika, of course...."

"It might surprise you to hear but Greenvale is pretty tolerant of homosexuals even if they are behind on the whole woman's rights thing. It's weird I know..."
Emily scrunched up her face a little, "I don't understand it myself how this town can be both behind the times and then again so with it you know? Like I've been friends with Kevin for years and he's never really had an issue well being himself or I've never witnessed anything done against him. He can be pretty secretive sometimes. Same with Thomas...but in his case it could be due to the fact he works directly with the Sheriff and could be benefiting from association and his protection like I did years ago..."
At Atlas' suggestion at a double date Emily beamed. "Oh that would be SO MUCH FUN!" She giggled a bit and continued, "I've always wanted to do something like that!" She shook Atlas' hand and said, "You got yourself a deal mister!"
Emily leaned back in her chair, crossed her arms and with a mock pout whined, "It figures, here's my chance at some double date shenanigans and I don't have a dude!" She blew up her bangs in annoyance and then smiled and said with a wink, "I guess I better start the search pronto before you find someone else to go with!"
She stretched a bit and then took another swig from her beer bottle then asked a little more sombre, "So how early can you meet me over at the construction site tomorrow morning?"

"Hmm, either that, or no one would try to make fun of someone who carries a pistol around as part of his job." Atlas replied. "But then again, I guess that didn't really stop people from giving you crap..." he added. "At least my brother would be okay here..."
He was happy to see that she was excited about the double date idea. Even if she didn't have anyone to go with, he was confident that someone as beautiful as her would be able to find someone easily. "There there, Em. I'm sure you'll be able to find someone. Anyone would be lucky to have a chance to go out with you." He replied, and patted her head with a grin.
His face changed to a more serious one when she changed topics. "Umm, any time really. The sooner we can start, the better. I'd start tonight, but it's really wet and dark out." "That, and the place is probably roaming with the damned about now and I'm sure that gigantic hellhound is lurking around as well."
