She noticed by the silence she said something weird. The taxidermy thing prehaps... People would get weird reactions when she said unusual stuff.Maybe that's why she had not many friends...No friends at all.
''Ohhh... uhm, can I see your birds?'' Was it an attempt to make a friend?

Wes seemed a little stunned when she was so forward. Was she prying, trying to gather information for some nefarious purpose... or was it that, like Todd, she was just displaying a level of friendliness that Wes had no idea how to deal with? But she hadn't even asked him his name, or given hers. He got the sense that she was rather shy, and didn't often talk to people. Something he understood.
Anyway, letting her see them would be letting her somewhat into his fortress of solitude, but then she was in his yard, at his house anyway...
He seemed to keep on debating the question, and still hadn't answered it when he asked, with a sharp glint in his eye, "What's your name?"

Clover had the sensation she said something wrong. She was confused. Her face went sightly red again, and looked at somewhere else that wasn't his face.
''Eh...I'm Clover.''
Hi I'm Clover, and you? She would have liked to sound less stupid, but she never could say anything 'ordinary'.Too reserved.

Wes had apparently done something to make her uncomfortable again, and she looked away. He looked her over appraisingly; she seemed more shy than nervous, and pretty genuine. She said that her name was Clover, and didn't press him for his-that could mean either that she wasn't really prying, or knew it already... but she hadn't used it.
Again he ran his tongue along the front of his teeth, then smirked. "Okay, Clover. I can show you if you don't stick your nose where it doesn't belong, and don't hit them or me with any more newspapers." He glanced down at the paper on the ground again, then over to the gate at the side of his house that lead to his weathering yard. She was outside his house already, so... why not?

Clover was glad he accepted to let her see the birds. She got all bright again. ''Mhm.'' She nodded. ''Thanks...eh and I won't, It was an honest mistake.''
Actually she had never hit someone with a newspaper in her life, untill today. Bad luck. Though it was okay, she met someone that looked not boring, in this boring town.
She smiled a litte, and observed the gate that Wes was looking at. Clover was eager to go.

(( In case it helps, this is more or less Wes' house: i56.tinypic.com/2445vlj.jpg Without the water of course. )) Clover's eagerness seemed to please Wes. He figured he was making up for almost making her cry, and thought that his brother would've been quite pleased. There were worse ways not to let go. "Okay, then," he said, then did a little flourish with his hand, gesturing to the gate. He led her over to a metal gate on the side of his house that led into the yard, watching her all along the way. The back yard was quite a bit larger than the front, and there were more, bigger windows, though they were all covered by shut blinds. The yard was quite tidy; everything seemed to be kept in a well-locked shed off the the side. The most obvious, striking thing was the mews that housed his birds. It was roughly the size of an average garage, with window-walls lined in chainlink; the raptors were actually visible from the outside. Two brown Harris hawks and a golden eagle. One of the hawks screeched at her approach.

Clover followed the directions, and walked trough the door. Quietly observed the backyard, it appeared to be in good condition, not like her's (Her father did not clean much, and she did not much either.)
When she heard the bird, noticed the cage and walked towards it looking excited. In fact, she hated birds in general, except raptors. She also loved owls ... and kiwis.
''Oooh awesome.'' Clover was fascinated by the birds. ''Do they have names?'' she turned her head looking at the man.

Wes didn't look where he was going much, as he was busy watching Clover, like... well, a hawk. He smiled at her enthusiasm, but there was still an air of distrust.
When she reached the mews, he leaned against the door and the hawk shrieked again. She looked over at him and asked a question; he looked away for the first time, towards the window-wall, but keeping her in her peripheral vision.
"The big one's Paige, the smallest one's Scholar, the one yelling at you is Banshee," he answered with an intimidating grin. "Now... if you want to go inside... I'm not responsible if they hate you." His words seemed intentionally discouraging.

''err.. No, thanks.'' She wouldn't like to get inside this place with the 'birdries'. Now,that was scary. Clover went back to looking at the raptors for a little more of time. It was getting awkward though. She couldn't think anything to say anymore. Then she realised she had spent her time there, and she actually had plans for the morning. ''Oh damn...'' She turned around and looked at the man. ''I forgot. I uhh... have to go.''

Wes seemed to be getting some amusement out of her apprehension. "Heh... Can't say I really blame you."
He kept an eye on her as she watched the birds for a little longer; it probably wasn't helping the awkward feeling, but making people feel comfortable was rarely high on Wes' to-do list.
"Ah, yes, that thing you were rushing for?" He glanced shiftily off the the side, and started walking her back to the gate.

Clover nodded. ''Yeah well, see you around.'' She smiled and waved shyly, as she was walking away.
She rode her bicycle away. She had only a few houses and shops left to deliver the newspapers.
