Tamika's mouth hung open. "500$. A week. To help this guy. WHO THE FUCKING HELL IS THIS GUY?!?!?!?" She tried for several moments to regain her composure, yet she still seemed in complete shock when she said,"Yeah, sure. Deal." After a few moments of staring at her salad, she got up and said, "I'm going to go make a quick phone call." "Atlas is probably going to want to hear about this." She headed over to the pay phone in the corner and left Atlas a voicemail telling him about the recent events. As she hung up the phone, Tamika muttered to herself, "I swear this town is going to drive me insane." With that done, she headed back and sat down next to the Doctor. She still looked a bit shocked and just decided to quietly eat her salad for now.

She's being quiet. Did that offer bother her? No matter. She had accepted, and that's all Brad wanted to hear. Reaching into his coat, he produced a fine leather wallet and rifled through it. A few moments later, he slid 5 $100 bills towards Tamika. "First week's pay."
"So what have you and Atticus found so far? And how's the salad? My eggs were a little overcooked. The steak was good though. " he asked, still retaining a gentle almost gleeful smile on his face.

She watched as he rifled through his wallet. Her eyes widened slightly as she saw many more hundreds in the wallet. "Ok, so he's fucking loaded. Though why would he carry so much money around so casually? Does he have a gun hidden somewhere on him? Or does he have so much money that this is pocket change for him?" Tamika believed that the former was more realistic, yet from what she'd seen of the eccentricity of the rich today, she was willing to keep the latter in mind. Still, while she began to think of how to tell him about the shadows, she looked him over for any sign of a hidden weapon.
"My salad's just fine. As for what me and Atticus have found..." she paused and then said, "most of it seems crazy, but I swear all of it is true." "Welp, he payed me to tell him, so I might as well. I hope this guy understands the term no refunds."
"What we've figured out is this. The massacre that happened before was probably caused by some sort of gas. I don't know much about it, but the guy I asked said something about it causing feelings of anger. Maybe it caused everyone to kill each other or maybe the gas itself is what killed them; I'm not sure. All I do know is that something about how they died has caused the spirits of the dead to stick around and try to kill anyone who can see them. Well, most of them anyone. Your Brian X is more content just staying in the graveyard. These spirits only come out during the rain and at night and I think they detect people by their breathing. I know all this sounds crazy, but I can prove that they exist."
After finishing her massive info dump, she went back to eating her salad. "Well Doctor, just how much are you willing to believe?"

Brad continued to eat, apparently unfazed by what his newly hired companion had told him. 1956. Massacre. No history. Gas. Shallow burial. Shallow. Shallow. Not caring. No love. Not community. Angry spirits. Not resting in peace. Not loved in death. That's it!
Setting down his fork, he reached back into his wallet, quickly pulled $40 out and threw it on the counter. Even more quickly, he jumped off the stool and headed quickly for the door. At the last moment, he turned around and with a huge grin, yelled back to her "Well? Are you coming or not? We need to go talk with Atticus! I have an idea! God, I love this town!"

"Well he's taking this well." Tamika was startled by his...enthusiastic reaction. For a split second, she considered running as far as she could away from this clearly insane man. Yet then she remembered that this guy was paying her $500 a week. "He's not insane. He's just pleasantly eccentric. And paying me. Besides, who isn't insane these days?"
She then set her fork down, slipped off her stool, and ran after the Doctor. "What's your plan?" she asked him.

In the parking lot of the diner, Brad walked towards his bike, than doubled back towards the young woman following him. "Think about it Tamika. Brian was buried in a hurry with no care. Let's assume he's not the only one." He turned around and paced back towards his bike. "They weren't buried by people who loved them. By the community. They were buried in a hurry. So their spirits are upset.
Again, turning around and walking back at Tamika. "There are certain events that happen throughout history when enough people have died that they're buried in a hurry like that. Epidemics, earthquakes, floods, tsunamis. But all those are natural disasters and there's been nothing of that scale here. However, there is one other type of event that would bring death on that large of a scale that's created by man." Brad paused and looked at the woman in front of him. "And do you know what that is?"

Tamika thought for a few seconds. "Event caused by man...that killed lots of people...of course."
"War," she said simply. "So are you saying that there was a war here?" That didn't make any sense to Tamika. If there was a war, someone would have heard something about it, right? It was a shock that this little tidbit would have been left out of the travel brochures.
"If there was a war, then how come no one has heard about it?" she asked.

Brad noticed the confusion Tamika had in the question she asked. He removed his glasses, then gently placed them on the confused girl's head. "The red lens definitely matches your hair."
"And you're right, if there was a war, people would certainly have heard about it. So it was smaller than a war. Much smaller. But the dead were given quick, burials like they were casualties of a war. You said you had a partner, yes? Atticus? I think it's time I meet him. If you can get a hold of him, we can all meet up somewhere later. Sound like a plan?" Brad asked.

"Huh." Tamika looked even more confused as the Doctor placed the 3D glasses on her head. "What the hell is with this guy?""Um, yeah. I'll give him a call and tell him to meet us at the SWERY 65 tonight. I'll see you then." Still completely confused about her new employer, she headed over to her Celica. As she got in, she pulled the 3D glasses off and examined them while reflecting on the Doctor's behavior. "He has got to be the craziest, most excitable man I've ever met. Yet he's still probably the best employer I've ever had. Or at least the most generous." Tamika flipped the glasses over and then placed them back on her head. Just before she pulled out of the parking lot she remembered that she still needed to call Atlas. Tamika pulled her cellphone out of her pocket. "Damnit, only one bar." Due to the poor connection, she sent him an email instead, and prayed that it would reach his computer sometime today. Then Tamika pulled her Celica out of the parking lot, still puzzled by her new employer.
