<Someone's trying to make contact with us, York.>
I know, I know. I'd have to be deaf not to hear that short girl's voice. Why couldn't she have a more melodic way of making contact, like the aliens from "Close Encounters"? On the other hand, this second person sounds rather more pleasant. Now, where did I put that badge...
Eyes still closed, right arm moving from memory, he found his wallet and flipped it open, too exhausted by this point to hold it up in front of his face. "FBI Special Agent Francis York Morgan," he started to say, before whoever was crouching in front of him slapped his cheek and then shook him by his (thankfully) uninjured shoulder. That roused him somewhat more quickly, to the sight of two wide blue eyes framed on either side by straw-colored hair, the rest of the features coming into focus like a Polaroid developing. A blonde, round-faced woman in a police officer's uniform. What was she doing in a hospital?
Beyond the looming face, the red-haired girl stood scowling, looking like something recently dragged in by a mammal of the feline persuasion.
"Oh, hello, Tamika. You're a sight for sore eyes," York coughed, deciding to thank her for the rescue later when there wasn't a third party around to ask him unnecessary questions. "And you... Are you Greenvale's Sheriff? No offense, but I'd like to see a doctor before we get into the investigation..."

Tamika rolled her eyes. "At least he is not accusing me of murder." "Emily, can you keep an eye on him? I'll go see if I can find a doctor." "Anything to get away from that ungrateful, rude, insane son of a bitch."
Tamika's method of looking for a doctor was to look in every room and try to spot one. This would work if the hospital wasn't flipping huge. "Why can't I find a doctor in a damn hospital? It should not be this hard!" At the seventeenth room, Tamika was so frustrated she just yelled into in,"Is anyone in this damn hospital a doctor?!?!?" What she saw in the room was not a doctor, but Atticus with a pastry box. "Errr...fuck."
"Uh...hi Atticus. Have you seen any doctors around here?" she asked while awkwardly picking at some of the twigs in her hair.

The Sheriff of Greenvale struck Henning as a curious individual. On the outset, he seemed to be a fairly straightforward, by-the-books type of character, traits Henning himself could appreciate. And the way he was treating Charlotte, firmly but with respect, demonstrated the sort of bedside manner that not every law enforcement officer he'd had to deal with possessed. The men in charge of the Vanessa Jacobs case, for example, had been all but useless when it came to dealing with victims of crimes or their survivors... Charlotte had told him about their insensitive behavior in the hotel room that day, so he knew how valuable and rare such methods of interaction could be.
On the other hand, Charlotte's body language told a slightly different story. She'd shrank back, almost imperceptibly, as the Sheriff came towards her, and even though she hadn't taken her eyes off the man throughout her account (edited, as Henning had instructed her), she'd been holding his hand tightly, probably not even realizing she'd been doing it. And there was the whole "Dave" thing, which he couldn't figure out. Had the Sheriff simply not heard him, or was he being deliberately rude? There was nothing in his voice that suggested the latter...
He supposed he couldn't blame Charlotte for being a little intimidated by the Sheriff; he was a large, dark, intense looking man, and after all she'd been through... Still...
"Thank you, Sheriff Woodman. That's exactly the same story she told me. Now, if you please, she really needs to get her rest-"
He cut himself off, listening.
"...Is someone yelling out there?"

Emily had been gone awhile. She claimed to be stepping out briefly to go to the ladies room, but hadn't returned for awhile. "Damn, how long does it take for women to go to the bathroom." he wondered.
Earlier, he heard some shouting in the lobby. Something about a FBI Agent collapsed there. "Did that blonde guy shoot himself in the foot already. Damn, this town is more dangerous than I thought. People are injuring themselves out of the woodwork. Either that, or the limbo zombies formed a militia.
He took his carrot cake box to talk to. "What do you make of all this weirdness." he said. "Do you think those things will eventually try to overrun the hospital? Even so, I'll find a way to fight them off. You've kept me alive this long..."
A few minutes later, a familiar redheaded midget wandered in. "Ahh, Tamika. I've been seeing you everywhere." he exclaimed. "Doctors, hmm, let me see..." he said and pressed his call button. A doctor came rushing in. "Hello, I believe this young lady needs a doctor. I don't know why, as she looks perfect well, but hear her out."

He listened to her entire story. He noted that the woman seemed a bit intimidated, despite his efforts to come across as gentle. He remained in thought while listening. "There's definitely a gap in her story somewhere. It seemed fine right up until she fell down the stairs. She says it got blurry, but it doesn't seem like a simple accident would wipe a person's memory out. Something happened in between then and the car." he thought, though he wouldn't press her on this issue yet. She needed to recover.
He sighed. "I keep telling Harry to have that place torn down. Nothing good ever happens there." he said.
Agent Dave had tried to shoo him out of the room. He was about to respond when he heard shouting. "What the hell is that?" he wondered. Another person dying in the lobby? At this rate, Greenvale would become a ghost town.
"You stay right here, Agent Dave. I'm going to check up what going on in the lobby."
He ran as fast as he could, following the shouting. He didn't want to leave Charlotte, but his job was Sheriff, not nursemaid. He burst through the lobby doors. "What's going on here." he yelled out.

Emily was relieved when the man opened his eyes. She couldn't believe the color, they were such a striking green. She didn't think she would see eyes like that outside the movies! She turned when Tamika said she was going to look for a doctor and gave the girl a nod of assent.
She turned back to the Agent, "Agent Morgan?" She was relieved the Agent assigned to Anna's murder had arrived but was very concerned about his bad condition. Did he have a run in with the same homicidal rusty car and driver? Poor guy looked like he went through hell.
"Umm, no Sir you are mistaken, I'm not the sheriff, I'm actually just the Deputy Sheriff here. George Woodman is the Sheriff...he's actually here as well, er questioning an Agent Henning and a young lady about an incident earlier this evening."
"Can you stand up? I'm sure you would be more comfortable in one of the lobby chairs until help arrives. She pointed to one of the chair ahead of them. "You think you can make it?" The Agent gave a halfhearted shrug so Emily took that to as an affirmative. She stood and leaned over to grasp him under his uninjured armpit and wrapped her other arm around his waist. Slowly and gingerly she helped the agent rise to a standing position. They has just made their tentative steps towards the nearest seat when George burst through the lobby doors.
His sudden appearance startled Emily so much she almost lost her grip on the Agent, "George! Can you help? It's Agent Morgan from the FBI. The one we've been waiting for! He's hurt!"

"Oh ha ha. You're SO funny." Tamika rolled her eyes at Atticus and turned to the doctor. "I don't need a doctor. There's a FBI agent in the lobby who has a broken arm and passed out for a while. Come on." She turned and briskly began walking back to the lobby with the doctor in tow.
Nearing the lobby, she rushed through the doors, wondering what state she would find York in. "Oh, he'll probably be just fine and will have set about accusing Emily of--eep!" Not paying much attention, Tamika ran right into the back of a man with a cowboy hat. "Sorry!" Tamika squeaked. Turning back to the doctor, she directed him toward the agent. The doctor rushed over to York while Tamika began to distance herself from the man with the cowboy hat. "Something tells me he is not the type of guy you want to run into."

Harry? Who the hell’s Harry?
Charlotte breathed a soft sigh of relief when the Sheriff was drawn from the room by the shouting outside. She realised just how tightly she was holding David’s hand, and loosened her grip a little. She didn’t let go, however. Instead she absently started tracing circles on the back of his hand with her thumb.
“I’m not sure he bought it,” she murmured softly. “Whatever you do... do NOT leave me alone with Mr. Moustache.” She wasn’t sure she should tell him just how much the moustached, cowboy-hatted sheriff creeped her out. She wasn’t all that intimidated by him... but his creep factor was as sizeable as his moustache. At least when he was staring at her, anyway. I wonder what Emily could tell me about him, she mused silently. It couldn’t hurt to gather what information she could.
David can’t protect me from him forever... But if he can stay around until I’m a little more myself and a little less concussed I’ll be fine. The thought of being alone with Porn ‘Stache McGee with her brain not firing on all cylinders worried her. Especially cornered in a hospital room.

"Hey wait, I wanted to ask about what happened earlier." Atlas yelled out to Tamika as she ran out the door with the doctor.
Alone in the hospital room again. Almost alone for Atlas at he turned to the carrot cake box beside him. "What do you make of that. I was trying to help her by summoning a doctor and she rolled her eyes at me. What was I supposed to do?" he asked. He wanted to ask her about her injuries earlier and if they related to the limbo zombies he saw, but she seemed to be occupied. "Hmm, women are quite weird. Don't you agree?" he said to the carrot cake box as he laid back, staring at the ceiling. "An injured FBI Agent. Sounds like the zombie militia is more well armed than I thought. I'm going to want to look for gun stores soon."

York, comfortably calm amidst chaos as if standing in the eye of the storm, watched Tamika sprint towards them, only to collide with the back of a broad-shouldered man wearing a black Stetson who had just come through the doors. Following her, though not as forcibly, was a non-descript man in a white coat who could only have been the doctor on duty.
"So Tamika pulled through for us yet again?" he said wonderingly. "Amazing! Wherever she's really from, small town charity lives on. And here I thought she was mad at me for something... Although you'd think she might keep her voice down with all the sick and injured possibly lying behind closed doors."
<Also, not that it matters,> the voice in his head remarked, <but she ran into that guy like something out of a Roadrunner cartoon.>
York smirked and almost fell over as the blonde woman (whom Tamika had referred to as "Emily") loosened her grip, shouting for a man named George. The black Stetson? Sheriff of Greenvale? Things were getting a little out of hand. York still had a firm grasp on his badge, which he held above his head and declared loudly to anyone in earshot:
"FBI Special Agent Francis York Morgan!" Then, slightly lower: "But please, call me York. That's what everyone calls me."
He leaned back on Emily's shoulder just as the doctor reached them, said to her in a quiet aside, "Don't feel bad for not getting it right the first time, Deputy. Hardly anyone does unless I tell them first, you know."

Henning had just been about to ask Charlotte exactly what it was that disturbed her so about the Sheriff (not that he couldn't already draw some of his own conclusions) when he heard a male voice loudly proclaiming something from the lobby, more audible than the previous shouting now that Woodman's hurried exit had left the door wide open. His heart sank.
"So he finally made it. Well, I'm going to have some explaining to do..."
Anticipating her questioning look, he added quickly, "There's another agent in charge of the Anna Graham case, name of York. At least, that's what he insists everyone calls him. He took over the RS- ah, the series of assignments I was working on before my accident, so I haven't operated too closely with him before. And the few times I have, well..."
He sighed, letting the patterns Charlotte was doodling on the back of his hand calm him down, and looked at the open door as if recalling something distasteful that had happened in the past.
"Let's just say I'm not at all surprised his entrance would cause this sort of reaction. Anyway, he doesn't know I'm here, so don't be surprised if he sees me and there's a bit of confusion. Not that he's ever the one who's confused. ...I'm not making a lot of sense, but when- if- you meet him, you'll understand what I mean. Maybe."

George looked around at the scene in the lobby. Emily was attempted to aid an injured man wearing a suit in the lobby. "Ahh hell, another casualty. And another FBI Agent. Isn't one enough already?" he thought. When Emily noticed him, she seem to almost her grip of the Agent.
"You'd think doctors would be rushing here already. Is this place really that busy." he wondered. "Hold on, I'll see if I can find someone." he replied. He walked over to the receptionist.
"Excuse me, are you sending a doctor to pick that man up?" he asked.
On cue, however, he felt a body slam into him. he turned to the body to reveal a small redheaded girl. "Excuse me. Watch where you're going." he told her. She had a doctor with her, who immediately ran over to attend to York. "At least something worked out tonight."
The man seemed to be conscious, though his arm looked injured. He was waving his badge around the lobby, insisting that people call him York. "Who the hell does this guy think he is. Barely an hour into town and he acts like he's the king of Greenvale." George thought. Best to let this man know who's really in charge.
"So you must be the FBI Agent Morgan we've been waiting on. Welcome to Greenvale. I'm the Sheriff, George Woodman. Call me George."

York's eyes seemed to dial up one notch in intensity when he heard the words "Agent Morgan" coming out of the Sheriff's mouth. He locked eyes with the man, deep-set as they were under the brim of the Stetson, and didn't look away, even as the doctor peeled him from Deputy Emily's shoulder and attempted to lead him down the hall. For someone in his condition, York seemed rather reluctant to move.
"Hello, Sheriff Woodman," he replied, injured arm all but forgotten in the excitement of meeting so many new people. "Or should I call you George?" He pretended to think for a moment, then snapped the fingers of his right hand, grinning. "Yes... That sounds about right. Pleased to meet you, and I look forward to the investigation."
The doctor was saying something about a scar, still trying to move him out of the lobby, but York waved him off. Still courteous as ever, he added, "Oh, and George? You may have noticed that my arrival here has been less than favorable, both for me and... my car. Completely totaled. Is it in your capacity as Chief Lawman of Greenvale to get that looked after for me, or should Zach and I bring it up with your attractive young Deputy over there?"
He jerked his head at Emily without looking at her. Meanwhile, Zach was firing short bursts of data about Agent Henning, what little they remembered about him, what he could be doing here... with a young lady, no less! And here York had thought this town was going to be dull...

George was starting to not like this man. First he waves his badge around, then insists on what to call him, and now he thinks the Sheriff's department is a towing service. "Sure thing Agent Morgan, would you also like a bubblebath, a massage and a handjob to go with that?" he thought. Whatever, humor this guy. If he's going to be a guest, might as well be a good host.
"Alright. Even though it's a small town, the doctors here are very good. They'll get you back on your feet before you know it. As for the car, I'll have Thomas take care of that. Is there anything else you need?" he asked.
He also scowled a bit off to the side about the way he described Emily. "Does this man have no shame. Hitting on a female officer he barely knows. If he wasn't FBI, I'd arrest him for harrassment." he thought. His darker side arose. "If this man so much as thinks about making a move on my precious Emily, Anna won't be the only resident of the morgue..."

If Tamika hadn't been so stressed by tonight, she might have found the current situation amusing. Not wanting to disrupt the strange scene playing out before her any more than necessary, she considered leaving. "No wait, York's going to want a lift to the hotel after here, isn't he? Damn you York." Bored and irritated Tamika decided to head back to Atticus's room. "Maybe I can steal whatever is in that box. Besides, I think he might have been yelling something at me when I left earlier."
Popping back in the injured lawyer's room, Tamika asked slightly exhausted from all the running she had done tonight, "Were you yelling something at me earlier?"
